00:00A WWE star injured during a match, Ronda Rousey shoot on Vince and the Mania 35 botch, Mercedes
00:06Monet wanted a WWE return and more. I'm Luke Owen and this is the WrestleTalk News.
00:17But before we get into the big wrestling news of the day, we've got major news to look
00:21at because Bryan Danielson has given his thoughts on the Greg's Vegan Sausage Roll.
00:26Following Mercedes Monet showing a picture of a frankly sad looking English breakfast
00:30she got at a Wetherspoons, Bryan Danielson featured on Sportbible's Snack Wars where
00:34he tried the Greg's Vegan Sausage Roll and compared it to Burger King's Plant Based
00:38Whopper. And the results are damning for Americans. It's more just like a pastry, which is nice.
00:43I much prefer the sausage roll to Plant Based Burger King Whopper. This feels unhealthy,
00:48at least in a bready way. The points go to the UK.
00:51That's my goat right there, he should never retire. Although he did say that he didn't
00:56like Percy Pig, so maybe I want him to lose it all in. Hold on, did Mercedes Monet order
01:01a small breakfast at Wetherspoons? Who orders the small breakfast at Wetherspoons? Hang
01:06on, where's the sausage? Where's the beans? Mercedes didn't just order a small breakfast
01:11to make us look bad, she's hiding key elements to make us look worse. I will file an official
01:16complaint with All Elite Wrestling and demand a public apology. Also, there's only three
01:20times one should visit a Wetherspoons for breakfast, at an airport, the final morning
01:24of a stag do, and the Monday morning after Reading Festival.
01:26On to much less important news now, because what could be more important than sausage
01:30roll chat? And last night's NXT saw a double taping as much of the crew is heading to Germany
01:35for Bash in Berlin. This means that next week's episode of NXT was taped last night. We won't
01:40go over the spoilers here, but they are linked to in the video description if you want to
01:43see them. But there was an injury during one of the matches.
01:46Fallon Henley teamed with JCJ, now known as Fatal Influence, to take on Jakara Jackson
01:51and Lash Legend, and during the match, Henley reportedly broke her nose and was bleeding
01:56badly. Corey Brannan of Fightful Select reports, Fallon Henley suffered a possible broken nose
02:01during her match, but finished the match despite the injury.
02:04There was also some concern that Carmen Petrovic was also injured as she was removed from the
02:09gauntlet match on last night's NXT, but Brannan reports her removal from the gauntlet
02:13was said to be storyline when we asked.
02:15And speaking of Twitter reactions, there appears to have been some speculation online that
02:19Ricky Starks is WWE bound and is no longer with AEW. Works Wrestling posted on their
02:25Twitter account a gif of Ricky Starks as if to indicate there was some news coming, and
02:29TechTwon noted on his Twitch channel that he had heard that Starks was a free agent
02:34and was signed with WWE.
02:37Starks is still listed on the AEW roster page, and Corey Brannan notes via Fightful Select,
02:42NXT sources say that there is significant interest in bringing Starks into the brand,
02:47but crucially note, once he's available. So that would suggest that Starks is still
02:53with AEW for the time being.
02:55And hilariously, TechTwon has addressed his comments on Twitter and said, bro I just heard
03:00Ricky Starks rumour from a WrestleTalk video. I don't know s***. For the record, we've
03:06never said that Starks was a free agent or that he had signed with WWE, but hi TechTwon
03:12thanks for watching.
03:13Now speaking of AEW, it's time to head over to our American Correspondent Maxwell Jacob
03:17Friedman, and I'll be honest folks, I've seen how he speaks to Oli and I know I was
03:23the one who brought him in, but I'm a bit nervous about this.
03:43So, on this day in 1936, the BBC debuted from Alexandra Palace. What did you think
04:10of that?
04:41Well it was Becky Lynch's Randy Orton take on Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship,
04:44which is playing off their botched finish to their King of the Ring Tournament final
04:48where Orton's shoulders were not down on the mat for the three counts. But once upon
04:52a time, under an old regime, it's always possible that would have just been ignored.
04:57Take for example the finish of WrestleMania 35, where Becky Lynch won the Raw and Smackdown
05:02Women's Championships in the main event against Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey.
05:06However in the finish, Rousey's shoulders were quite clearly up, and it's since been
05:10edited in recap packages shown on WWE TV and has even been edited on the WWE Network
05:15to hide the botch. And speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Rousey herself has now opened up
05:19about the finish, explaining what happened. She said,
05:22I didn't think my shoulders were flat to the ground, so I was trying to scoot to get
05:26my shoulders flat. Because it was too f***ing loud, I couldn't hear anything. It wasn't
05:30intentional. I didn't think my shoulders were flat, so I was trying to flatten out.
05:35But I think that we could have used it and kept it going, but they never let us.
05:40Interestingly when comparing the botched finish to her very smooth WrestleMania 34 debut the
05:45year prior, Rousey explains that was because the Mania 35 match was thrown together while
05:50the other was planned out in advance. This meant her debut match had more time to rehearse
05:55and practice, while the Mania 35 match was not afforded that opportunity. She said,
06:00Why did we put a whole year into promoting and building this match, and then it's just
06:04thrown together at the last second? We were still figuring it out while we were at the
06:08venue, and that is what a lack of practice and rehearsal does.
06:12As to why Ronda and Becky didn't have the singles match the fans actually wanted, she
06:15told Chris Van Fleet, I don't know, Vince McMahon is an 80 year old a-hole. She added,
06:20Vince McMahon, John Laurinaitis, Bruce Prichard, they can all suck a D.
06:25Speaking of WrestleMania, and Mercedes Monet was part of another WrestleMania main event
06:28that also featured women, and that was a very smooth segue. I won't hear a bad word said
06:32about it in the comments. But yeah, Mercedes Monet.
06:37With all in this weekend, it's amazing to look back at last year's show where Monet
06:41was shown in the crowd. At that point, Monet was not signed with All Elite Wrestling, and
06:46was out with an injury she suffered during her New Japan Strong Women's Championship
06:49match against Willow Nightingale. And Monet has now revealed in her newsletter that being
06:54part of that All In show was when she decided she wanted to sign with AEW, as prior to that,
07:00she was considering a return to WWE. Before All In, Monet attended an LA Rams game at
07:06the SoFi Stadium, which was set to be the home of WrestleMania 39. She writes, I kept
07:10thinking this is where WrestleMania is going to be. It's an enormous, beautiful stadium
07:14in the tinsel town, the city of angels. How could Snoop's first cousin and a member
07:18of the Mandalorian cast not be here? Thus, at the end of the game, I leaned over to Kev
07:23and I said, I need to be here for Mania. And at that time, that's truly how I felt and
07:28my plan was. Mercedes Monet instead signed with AEW earlier this year, but that is not
07:33the only big All Elite Wrestling contract that has been worked on. Because it's time to talk
07:38about TV contracts. WWE tied up all of their TV deals in late 2023 and earlier this year,
07:44with Smackdown moving to USA Network, NXT moving to The CW and Raw moving to Netflix,
07:49all of which are seeing a huge increase in rights fees. AEW is yet to finalise their deal for a new
07:55TV contract, with a lot of talk and speculation on the future of All Elite Wrestling and Warner
08:00Brothers Discovery. Lots of analysts have reported that should they get a big increase in their WBD
08:05deal, AEW will be a very profitable company. The exclusivity window between AEW and WBD has now
08:14expired, according to a previous report from Fightful Select, and it was reported that All
08:18Elite Wrestling had received an offer from Warner that they wanted to negotiate further on. AEW's
08:24Tony Khan met with WBD's David Zaslav in Paris during the Olympics, and a new report from
08:29Fightful Select has some positive news about AEW's TV deal. Sean Ross Sapp spoke to his
08:34sources at WBD and reports another offer for a long-term television deal was made recently to
08:39All Elite Wrestling from WBD that they're very confident in. SRS reports this offer came following
08:45the meeting in Paris and is said to be extensive. When pushed for what that might mean, he was told,
08:51literally extensive. The offer is now with AEW and the ball is in their courts. SRS writes that
08:56both AEW and WBD are confident that the deal will be agreed upon, but there's no news on when an
09:02announcement will be made. There's also not a lot of details on actual figures of the deal. SRS was
09:07told that the last deal that WBD proposed, the one that AEW wanted to negotiate further on,
09:11was for at least double what their 2019 deal was. Which would indicate that this new deal offer
09:17is for more than double what they signed in 2019. Fightful Select also report that all
09:22combinations of AEW programming is being considered in this WBD deal, which would
09:27include Dynamite, Rampage, Collision, any reality TV show crossovers, the Ring of Honor library and,
09:32of course, PPVs. Max has been a big part of these discussions reportedly. SRS's sources
09:39also told him that WBD believe the relationship with them and All Elite Wrestling will continue
09:43for years to come. And I'm sure there are some podcasters who will have some thoughts about this.
09:48Speaking of AEW and contracts, it was reported last week by Fightful Select that All Elite
09:52Wrestling had interest in signing the current British Heavyweight Champion Michael Oku and
09:56his partner Amira. Oku is reportedly set to be part of tonight's Dynamite in Cardiff and is also
10:01rumoured to be part of All In's Casino Gauntlet this Sunday. He is defending the British World
10:06Championship on Saturday against Luke Jacobs and his Riot Cabaret Championship on Friday in a
10:11three-way with Nico Angelo and Mark Andrews. At RevPro's Summer Sizzler at York Hall last week,
10:16following his match with MJF, Oku and Amira had an emotional standing ovation at the entrance ramp.
10:21I turned to Oli and SP3 and said, I think he's going to AEW. That felt like a goodbye to York
10:27Hall cry. And speaking with Grapple, Oku was asked about the reports of him being AEW bound,
10:33and this is what he had to say. At the moment, it's something that I'm open to and nothing
10:39that is confirmed. Of course, that'd be my answer if I was confirmed because everybody lies in
10:44wrestling anyway. But that is, I'm putting it out there. That is what I'm saying. So that I've said
10:50it. You know, that sounds like someone is working us right there and that's all for me. But have you
10:54checked out our playthrough of the definitive wrestling RPG over on Chaotic Neutral? It is
10:59certainly one for fans of our old CBW days and features me doing lots of flawless accents. Go
11:05and watch it right now. Chad Baseball. Howie, my name is Chad Baseball. Now I've heard some nasty
11:14rumours about me that I'm not actually American and I want to set the record straight. I was not
11:21a British spy sent there to infiltrate the Americans and become one of them and then got
11:26sent back and now just believe I'm an American. I'm actually American. I was an American as an
11:33American pie. Apple kind, that is. I am as American as baseball and other types of American
11:41things. My American people, I am going to win the WTF championships and I am going to do it
11:49for America. Incredible. It's a great promo cutting on the not American crowd. Yeah, the not American crowd.
