00:00How many times do you think you touch your phone in a day?
00:28How many times do you touch your phone in a day?
00:33Recent research says that the average American touches his or her phone in a day 2,716 times.
00:502,716 times we touch our phones.
00:57That's the average.
00:59The top 10% touch their phones over 5,000 times a day.
01:05Apple came out just a couple of years ago, actually.
01:07It's probably more now.
01:10A couple of years ago, they came out with some stats, and this is, of course, before
01:18all the fingerprint ways to open up your phone, facial recognition, and all kinds.
01:34This is before all of that.
01:36Before all of that, of course, they have stats, because they know how many times you unlock
01:42your phone.
01:44They know how many times, because every time you unlock your phone, it sends the information
01:48actually to them, right?
01:50So they said an average, I'm talking about the average iPhone user, unlocks his or her
01:59phone 80 times a day.
02:03Eighty times a day.
02:07That's three times an hour if you don't sleep.
02:11That's if you don't sleep.
02:13Now, if you calculate that, of course, everyone has to sleep.
02:17That's going to be like five times an hour.
02:22Every single hour, we unlock our phones five times.
02:29That's the average iPhone user.
02:30The average, okay?
02:33So where am I getting to?
02:37What we're doing, what I'm going to be speaking about today, of course, is time.
02:44Time.
02:45The value of time.
02:48The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he said,
02:53نعمتان مغبون فيهما كثير من الناس الصحة والفراغ
03:02Two things, two blessings.
03:06نعمتان, these are blessings from Allah ﷻ.
03:10Two blessings that people are مغبون, مغبون means that they don't know the true value
03:17of it and they end up wasting, wasting these things.
03:21These two things are الصحة والفراغ.
03:27Your health and free time.
03:31Health and free time.
03:33In fact, these two blessings, these two blessings are so important that you will not be able
03:42to enjoy any other blessing if you don't have these two blessings.
03:50You can have the most delicious food in front of you, but if you're sick, it will not taste
03:58good.
03:59SubhanAllah, even to bed, even to bed.
04:03So one thing, don't bring it in, don't bring it in your bedroom.
04:09This also, we are living in the information age.
04:13We are living in the information age.
04:17Everything is at our fingertips.
04:21There's so much information, but there's so little knowledge.
04:25There's so much information, but there's so little, there's so much widespread ignorance.
04:33Why is that the case?
04:36Why is that the case?
04:37Well, because people no longer study the deen.
04:42They can't even, they can't even go to the masjid to sit with the scholars and learn
04:48in a structured way.
04:51People just want, forget about three minute videos, nowadays that's why you have, what
04:58do you call it?
04:59What's that?
05:00Not Instagram.
05:01What's the other one?
05:02Snapchat, right?
05:03Snapchat is like 15 seconds, right?
05:06And even 15 seconds, they pass up some of that stuff.
05:08They can't, 15 seconds is too long, so you skip some of them, right?
05:12Like everybody is in a hurry, and everybody wants quick, and even when it comes to the
05:18deen, so sometimes people listen to a lecture here and there on YouTube, and they think
05:23they know everything.
05:25They think they know everything, and then sometimes they read articles, but believe
05:31it or not, sometimes you read, some people don't even read those articles.
05:36Instead of reading those articles, they just read the headline, and then they go straight
05:39to the comment section.
05:42You know why?
05:43Because that's where all the drama is.
05:46And you know they did not read the article because of the comment.
05:49Like the comment shows that they didn't read the article, because they don't even want
05:54to read the article.
05:55They just want drama.
05:57That's how it is nowadays.
05:59So we, we have to make sure that there's a time, of course, for ourselves, but we have
06:11to prioritize things correctly.
06:15In the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he said,
06:17إِنَّ لِرَبِّكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقًّا
06:20Surely your Lord has a right upon you.
06:22وَإِنَّ لِأَهْلِكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقًّا
06:24And your family has a right upon you.
06:26وَإِنَّ لِنَفْسِكَ عَلَيْكَ حَقًّا
06:28And you yourself also have a time for yourself.
06:30You should have time for yourself also.
06:32So in a day, you should prioritize things.
06:35There's a time in which you spend in ibadah, and of course there's a time in which you
06:40go to work and take care of your family and so forth.
06:43And there's a time also for yourself, a time for yourself to do things to give you more
06:48energy and strength and rejuvenate.
06:51And so spend time, spend your time wisely.
06:56A Muslim never kills time.
06:59Why?
07:00Because when you're killing time, you're killing yourself.
07:04Spend your time wisely.
07:06If it is beneficial, then do it.
07:09If it is not beneficial, any time spent in the disobedience of Allah is a waste of time
07:14and it's harmful for you and it will be against you on the Day of Judgment.
07:18And any time that's not beneficial, it doesn't benefit you, nor does it harm you, then try
07:24to spend your time in something that's more beneficial for you.
07:29I woke up one day, and you know, as they say, the internet blew up, right?
07:38The internet literally exploded.
07:42Why?
07:44Everyone was talking about something.
07:46Everybody was talking about something.
07:48What were they talking about?
07:50One morning, I turned on the TV, the morning news, and they were talking about it.
07:57I went to the car, and they were talking about it on the radio.
08:03And everybody was talking about it.
08:04And even my wife, she comes to me and she says,
08:07Honey, what color is this dress?
08:15She says, what color is this dress?
08:18I said, La ilaha illallah Muhammadur Rasulullah.
08:21The world has nothing else to do except to figure out what color this dress is, right?
08:27You know, the answer to that is in the Sunnah.
08:30Our Dean has the answer for everything.
08:32Do you know what the answer to that is?
08:35The answer to that, we have a hadith.
08:39The Prophet ﷺ, he said,
08:43من حسن الإسلام المرء تركوه ما لا يعنيه
08:48Of the excellence of a person's Islam is that he leaves that which doesn't concern him.
08:54That means who cares?
08:55If it doesn't concern you, just ignore it.
08:58There's so many things we spend time doing that will not benefit us and does not benefit
09:03us in this life nor in the hereafter.
09:08So every single day, before you go to sleep, I want you to calculate and check back.
09:19How did you spend that day?
09:22How did you benefit?
09:24How did you benefit from that day?
09:27And how did you make use of that day?
09:29And if you didn't make use of that day, if you didn't spend your time properly, then
09:35plan to do a better job tomorrow.
09:39حاسبوا أنفسكم قبل أن تحاسبوا
09:43Hold yourself accountable before you will be held accountable because your feet will
09:49not move until you answer to Allah سبحانه وتعالى for every second of your life.
09:57We ask Allah سبحانه وتعالى to teach us that which benefits us and benefit us from
10:02that which He has taught us.
10:03وجزاكم الله خيراً وصلى الله على نبينا محمد وعلى آله وصحبه وسلم
