00:00A British tech tycoon and his 18-year-old daughter were feared dead on Monday after
00:04his Supriyaq was struck by a tornado.
00:07Mike Lynch, 59, and his teenage daughter Hannah are among seven passengers and crew thought
00:13to have been killed after his £30 million yacht sank half a mile off the coast of Sicily
00:17in the early hours of Monday morning.
00:20They were on a trip to celebrate his acquittal in a fraud trial.
00:23The Italian coast guard has recovered one body with six people still to be found in
00:28the wreckage of the Bayesian, now 165 feet underwater on the seabed.
00:33A tornado over water, known as a waterspout, had struck the 184 feet yacht with 22 people
00:39on board as it moored overnight off Portocello, a fishing village 10 miles east of Palermo.
00:45Mr Lynch, dubbed Britain's Bill Gates, had been acquitted of fraud in a San Francisco
00:50courtroom in June, having been found not guilty on all counts of inflating the value of autonomy.
00:56The company he sold to the US tech giant Hewlett-Packard in 2011 for £8.6 billion.
01:02In a rare interview following his acquittal, Mr Lynch, who had been forced to spend 13
01:06months in the Asunder House arrest after being extradited from the UK in May last year, said,
01:12''Now you have a second life.''
01:14The question is, what do you want to do with it?
01:17Guests had been invited on board to celebrate his court victory, including at least one
01:21member of his legal team from the city law firm Clifford Chance as well as colleagues
01:25at the London Investment Fund in Vote Capital, which he runs.
01:29Mr Lynch's family were also on the yacht, including his wife, Angela Becares, 57, who
01:35survived the disaster but was left using a wheelchair after suffering lacerations to
01:40her feet when the yacht sank.
01:42According to La Repubblica, Ms Becares told doctors that at 4am the boat had tilted and
01:47she and her husband had woken up.
01:49The newspaper reported, ''At first they were not worried but then there was a scene of
01:53confusion as glass shattered and everything slipped.''
01:56The couple's daughter Hannah, who is among those missing, had just won a place at the
02:00University of Oxford to read English.
02:03Jonathan Bloomer, the chairman of Morgan Stanley International, was also confirmed among the
02:07missing by Italian authorities, according to the Times.
02:11Mr Bloomer is a close friend of Mr Lynch and gave evidence at his trial, where he claimed
02:16his friend wasn't particularly interested in the finance side of the business.
02:20The Bayesian, named after the mathematical theory Mr Lynch had used to make his fortune,
02:26is one of the 50 largest sailing yachts in the world.
02:29Its 237ft aluminum mast was the tallest of its kind when it was built in 2008.
02:35Questions are now being raised about how it managed to sink.
02:39It has been suggested that the heavy mast may have made the yacht unstable when the
02:43tornado struck.
02:44A weather warning had been in place for four days beforehand.
02:48The body of the yacht's chef, named locally as Ricardo Thomas, was recovered from the
02:52water the other crew members have all been accounted for.
