00:00I was the breakfast session announcer on 5AD.
00:03All of a sudden my studio door burst open and in came Dick Moore,
00:07who was our studio manager at the time.
00:09Eldon, he said,
00:11we've got to get you off the air,
00:12the Beatles are arriving,
00:14and we've got to get you down to the airport.
00:16All I knew was that I was to broadcast the Beatles arrival
00:20on the whole trip from the airport up to the town hall.
00:24I was there.
00:25I was watching them come out of that plane.
00:28A dream come true.
00:29I was living a dream.
00:31One of the technical boys passed me the microphone.
00:34He said, right, it's all yours.
00:35And that's really all the preparation I had.
00:39The door opened and the Beatles came down the stairs.
00:42John came out,
00:44Paul behind him,
00:45and on the other side was George
00:48and Jimmy Nickel was behind him.
00:51And of course Ringo wasn't there.
00:52You remember Ringo had either tonsillitis or appendicitis.
00:56So a mate of theirs, Jimmy Nickel,
00:59substituted for Ringo.
01:01And as they came down,
01:03well, I'd been told to behave myself, of course.
01:05And I was, I was being a good girl
01:08until the point that John was coming on my side,
01:11but Paul bobbed over the other side.
01:13I couldn't help myself.
01:14And I yelled out, Paul!
01:16To which Paul swung around
01:18and came over next to John.
01:20They both stood there looking at me
01:22and I went, click.
01:24And that was my best photo.
01:27And just after that, John said,
01:28you're a bit young to be a photographer, aren't you?
01:31And I must've said no
01:34because they burst out laughing, I remember.
01:36So they stepped into the car.
01:38We pulled our car up
01:39so that we were virtually bumper to bumper.
01:41And the lads turned around and waved to us.
01:44So I trotted along to the front of the car
01:46because I wanted to get to Paul.
01:48I had my autograph book.
01:49And so I yelled out, Paul, can I have your autograph?
01:53And he turned around and the car drove off.
01:56The manager said that they were only allowed
01:59to stay there for three minutes
02:00because he was scared of a riot.
02:02He knew how many people were out there, had no idea.
