00:00Cheryl, the thing, you're doing this for Olivia, aren't you?

00:03It's in honour of your little girl.

00:05And to try and make her life mean even more,

00:10not just to you, but to everybody, and to have an impact on your community.

00:15The interesting thing, and I think it must be the greatest challenge,

00:18is that you're sat here now,

00:20and people from your community will be watching,

00:22and they'll watch this documentary.

00:24But the one single thing that affects that community

00:26is this grass culture,

00:28this idea that you can't talk about the most horrific crimes

00:32and offences that are happening that are affecting their own people.

00:36And that makes the police jobs harder,

00:38and also gives the criminals carte blanche to carry on the way they are.

00:42Yeah, it does.

00:44What would you say to your community, your friends, your neighbours,

00:47people living in streets nearby?

00:48What is your message to them about this hideous, no-grass culture that takes place?

00:53Anything that you know you need to speak up.

00:57I don't know how anyone can live with the conscience of knowing

01:04something that really bad has happened.

01:06They know that the people that have done it, they need to speak up.

01:13If it was themselves, they've got to think that if it happened to themselves,

01:17they'd want somebody else to speak up

01:20if they knew about who it was or what was going on.

01:25You just can't keep quiet,

01:29because it's just going to carry on and it's going to get worse.

01:31Well, that's the point. You end up in this vicious circle, don't you?

01:33When you don't respect the law,

01:35the power ends up in the criminals and the gangs.

01:39And what are the police there for?

01:41And how's the community going to get any better?

01:43It'll just get worse, won't it?

01:45It will.

01:46I think we have also, you know, we understand the fear factor.

01:50People are frightened of repercussions.

01:52And, you know, we're not naive to that fact.

01:55But it can be done anonymously as well.

01:57You don't have to give your name.

02:01And quite often, sometimes when you hear these cases,

02:03they are anonymous tip-offs.

02:04There'll be an anonymous call that,

02:05look, I think you need to look in that direction,

02:06or here's a bit of information.

02:08And sometimes just that small bit of information

02:10can go a long way, I suspect, for the police.

02:13Absolutely.
