00:00On Wednesday, August 14th, President Biden addressed creators at the first-ever White
00:04House Creator Economy Conference to talk about the future of communication.
00:09Speaking to the room filled with 100 digital creators and industry professionals across
00:14platforms, Biden stated,
00:16You are the future. You are the new possibilities. You are the breakthrough in how we communicate.
00:21Then the president humorously quipped,
00:23That's why I've invited you to the White House. Because I'm looking for a job.
00:27The Creator Economy Conference created a platform for an open discussion between
00:31creators and legislators and included topics such as artificial intelligence,
00:36tech, fair compensation, data privacy, and mental health impacts of social media.
00:40In recent years, the content creation industry has skyrocketed thanks to a boom in influencer
00:46marketing, the growth of e-commerce, and social media platforms that provide creators with
00:50opportunities to profit from their digital content. Addressing the lack of legislation
00:55around creators and speaking to the importance of the conference, tech policy lawyer Franklin
01:00Graves commented,
01:01The law and policy issues facing creators are much more nuanced and often unaddressed by
01:06existing regulations or agency actions. These events ensure creators are given a voice in DC
01:12that more traditional entertainment and media groups have had for decades.
