00:00In this video, I'm going to show you how to make a 24 by 16 by 18 chest
00:10First thing you'll do is you'll cut four 2x2 that's 17 and 1 quarter and this would be your four corners of your chest
00:16after that
00:17you'll grab a
00:173 quarter inch straight router bit and set at a depth of quarter inch and
00:21From your backboard to the center of your bit will be a half inch go ahead and run that 2x2 through all four of them
00:27and once you get that done the way you're looking at your rotate it counterclockwise and
00:31Move that backboard back to 3 quarter inches off the center of the bit and run it through one more time
00:36And once you have all four of those run through this is kind of something what it will look like
00:40And this is the joints that your board to be able to fit into here
00:48Now you're gonna grab your 1 by 4 and you'll cut 10 at 24 inches and 10 at 15 inches
00:54And once I got those cut I kind of just dry fit it and make sure my measurements were correct
01:05Now that all my 1 by 4s are cut I'm gonna go ahead and start putting those together
01:09And I'm gonna make sure that I glue each board here on the ends and on the top parts of them
01:14I stack them together and I'm also looking at each end of the board and make sure that the grains are running in opposite directions
01:20Basically all you do is look at the board and see which ways the lines are going and make sure it's just opposite of the
01:25One below it and as I'm doing this I am putting in a few finishing nails
01:30Once I get all together just kind of help hold it together
01:32I put some clamps to hold it and then put some finishing nails
01:35To kind of help it keep it straight square and level that way once the glue dries. It'll be good to go
01:41Now I'm gonna cut for the bottom of our box
01:43You could either use half-inch or 3 quarter inch plywood and you're gonna cut that 24 and an eighth by
01:4915 and a quarter and once that's cut out each corner
01:52You have to cut about a 3 8 square off to be able to fit in there properly
01:55And once all those squares are all cut off
01:57You'll grab your drill and drill four pocket holes on each side of the board
02:02And this will allow you to drill a hole in the bottom of the board
02:05Next we're gonna cut two 2x2's at 26 and a quarter and two at 14 and a quarter for our lid
02:12And they want to cut four 1x4's at 23 and a quarter and you're also gonna cut one 1x4
02:18That's also 23 and a quarter, but it's only gonna be about an inch and a quarter wide
02:22So you're gonna cut that at 23 and a quarter and then you're gonna cut two 1x4's at
02:2614 and a quarter and then you're gonna cut two 2x2's at
02:29And you're also gonna cut one 1x4 that's also 23 and a quarter
02:33But it's only gonna be about an inch and a quarter wide
02:41And for your 2x2's here, you're also going to use your
02:453 quarter inch straight router bit again and set about a quarter inch depth and go straight
02:49Center those 2x2's to be able to give it a good groove for those 1x4's to get in
02:54All right
02:55Now that our lid is complete the last thing we really have is be able to put on the feet here
02:59I actually use these wooden dowel rod holders and they work great for feet
03:04They get it just right height off the ground and they only cost 99 cents for two of them
03:09So $2 total and it works out great for this project and after that you're pretty much ready to stain
03:16I use kind of a red oak stain here and you can use whatever color you want and darker or lighter
03:22Or you can just leave a natural wood
03:24I recommend just using a cloth or a rag to kind of apply that and just kind of lightly
03:29Kind of touch the wood going across going with the grain of the wood and most of times you're probably gonna need at least two
03:34coats to get a nice good even
03:36Coat across other than that. This is a basically what it looks like whenever it's done. I
03:44Use black hinges here and also used half inch
03:47Manila rope about 20 inches long for each side and tied a knot in it as you can see here
03:52Just kind of works good for the handles give it a different kind of look
03:55But I use black hardware, like I said because it kind of goes good with the red here
04:00Thank you for watching my video. I hope that was beneficial to you that maybe you learned something new
