Egyptian fencer Nada Hafez took on the Paris Olympics at seven months pregnant.

Hafez beat USA’s Elizabeth Tartakovsky in the first round of the women’s individual saber competition before being knocked out by Jeon Hayoung of the Republic of Korea.

In this clip, she opens up about the challenges of competing and the determination that fuels her pursuit of greatness.

00:00This changed all my perspective about the Olympics.
00:02This is Nada Hafez, an Olympic fencer from Egypt.
00:06Amazingly, she competed at Paris 2024 while seven months pregnant.
00:10Going to Paris 2024 while pregnant,
00:12I didn't want my pregnancy to limit my goals.
00:16I really wanted to do my best and to win.
00:21And I wasn't going like, I'm pregnant, so OK, I will lose.
00:24No, it wasn't the plan.
00:25I told myself, so I can do it.
00:28Of course, it was full of challenges and it was full of emotions.
00:34It's a roller coaster of emotions because, you know,
00:38the hormone changes during pregnancy also.
00:42But I really wanted to do something different
00:45and to make my dream come true,
00:49whatever, no matter the challenges.
