00:00A UN report has warned that the world is unprepared for the long-term social impacts of rapidly
00:05escalating crises.
00:07The World Social Report 2024 from the United Nations Department of Social Affairs highlights
00:12that shocks are becoming more frequent and intense, spreading through global networks.
00:17The report emphasizes that while progress in poverty reduction and inclusion builds
00:21resilience, existing social protection systems often fall short during crises.
00:27Proactive governance and proactive measures are crucial for resilience, but only 47% of
00:31the global population has access to social protection, with a significant disparity between
00:36high-income and low-income countries.
00:38The report notes that the cost to achieve adequate social protection systems in developing
00:43countries by 2030 is estimated at $1.4 trillion.
00:47It also points out that recent crises, including climate-related disasters and violent conflicts,
00:53have increasingly severe and widespread impacts, with a projected cumulative output loss of
00:58over $50 trillion by 2030.
