00:00They were craftsmen, they were blacksmiths, they were traders,

00:03they were knowledgeable in many fields.

00:05A huge number of them are unlettered,

00:07and the only thing they know about their book

00:09is what they wish was in the book.

00:13In the next ayah, Allah says,

00:14وَمِنْهُمْ أُمِّيُّونَ

00:15And among them are people that are ummiyun,

00:17unlettered, uneducated.

00:19But the Israelites were knowledgeable people.

00:21They were craftsmen, they were blacksmiths,

00:24they were traders, they were knowledgeable in many fields.

00:27And today, we can be programmers,

00:29we can be medical doctors,

00:30we can be political scientists,

00:32we can be researchers.

00:33How is he saying among them are unlettered people?

00:36He's talking about in terms of their religion,

00:38in terms of the actual scripture,

00:40in terms of the word of Allah,

00:43they're completely unlettered.

00:44They have no direct access to their book.

00:47They have no clue what it says.

00:48So, لَيَعْلَمُونَ الْكِتَابُ

00:50They don't know the book.

00:51So he further explains himself saying,

00:53among them are unlettered that don't know the book.

00:57أُمْيُّونَ لَيَعْلَمُونَ الْكِتَابُ

00:59Interestingly, for those of you that are students of the Arabic language,

01:02that لَيَعْلَمُونَ الْكِتَابُ

01:03can be considered a sifah of ummiyun,

01:05because ummiyun is nakira.

01:06And the jumla fi'aliyya can be considered a sifah.

01:08Now, what that means in simple English

01:10is they are unlettered who don't know the book.

01:12Okay.

01:13إِلَّا أَمَانِيَّ

01:15Except for Amani.

01:17That's an interesting word.

01:18So they don't know the book except for Amani.

01:20Now Amani can be translated wishful thinking.

01:23أُمْنِيَّ

01:24or originally pronounced مُنْيَ

01:26and then it became أُمْنِيَّ

01:28It has several meanings.

01:29One of them is what the heart desires.

01:33It also implies the meaning of the mind

01:35being preoccupied with what is

01:37or what might not even exist.

01:39Meaning fantasizing in your head,

01:41dreaming in your head.

01:43Allah is commenting on the mass population

01:45of the Israelites and saying

01:47a huge number of them are unlettered

01:49and the only thing they know about their book

01:51is what they wish was in the book.

01:53Or their own wishes have now corrupted

01:57their opinion of what the book...

01:59The Qur'an never says you have to pray 5 times.

02:02Where is it? Show me.

02:05Right?

02:06They don't want to pray.

02:08So now the Qur'an never says that.

02:10Okay, show me where in the Qur'an I can't do that.

02:14Where does it talk about beer?

02:35You've already got desires,

02:37you want to do some stuff,

02:38and now you want to impose that onto the book.

02:41And say,

02:42nah, that's not what the book says,

02:43that's what it says.

02:44Allah says be kind, bro.

02:47Allah says He's gonna forgive.

02:48Allah says it.

02:49Look, He's a little ghafoor or something.

02:50What's the Arabic word, ghafoor?

02:52Yeah, that's what He says.

02:54So you pick and choose,

02:56and you come up with your own Islam.

02:58And then even the best one.

03:00Yeah, that's not the Islam I follow.

03:04You know, I have my own connection to Allah.

03:07Okay.

03:09You know what that means?

03:09I don't need to know the book.

03:10My feelings are actually my religion.

03:14How I feel is my religion.

03:18And you can't judge me.

03:20No, Allah's word.

03:21No, no, no, that's you judging me.

03:22But Allah says,

03:23nah, I got a special connection with Allah,

03:26you don't know.

03:27Allah understands me.

03:29Really, but you don't seem to understand Allah.

03:32Alright.

03:33لَا يَعْلَمُونَ الْكِتَابِ إِلَّا أَمَانِيًۭ

03:36وَإِنْهُمْ إِلَّا يَظُنُونَ

03:37And they're doing nothing but making assumptions.

03:40They do nothing but make assumptions.

03:42This is a commentary

03:44on the educated yet uneducated.
