New research has found that there has been a rise in domestic abuse cases where no police
00:06
action is taken.
00:07
The investigation, which was carried out by Sky News, found that it is becoming more and
00:12
more common for victims of domestic abuse to have their investigation closed against
00:17
their wishes due to what has been referred to as evidential difficulties.
00:21
Evidential difficulties is described by the Home Office as a crime which is confirmed
00:26
and the victim supports police action but evidential difficulties prevent further action.
00:31
Experts have weighed in on this topic and have said that this has a profoundly negative
00:36
impact on victims' safety.
00:38
Some victims have said that they felt let down by the police force and that they weren't
00:42
expecting this outcome.
00:44
Amy Boudry, a policy and public affairs officer at domestic abuse support charity Refuge,
00:50
said that to know that in a large proportion of those cases the evidence is there but the
00:56
police just aren't taking it seriously is really, really concerning for us.
