00:05In the first episode of the digital documentary of Kara David,

00:08in Kara Docks, they went to the residents who need to walk on rocky and white mountains

00:14and ride on both boats to be able to charge their gadgets.

00:21We often panic when we hear the sound of our cellphones ringing.

00:27But did you know that there are still places in the Philippines where there is no electricity supply?

00:32You still need to walk on rocky and white mountains and cross the river to be able to charge your gadgets.

00:49We are now going to a remote place in North Zagaray, Bulacan.

00:53They call it Sitio Iligan.

00:55We are now here at Angat Dam.

00:57This is what supplies water to Metro Manila.

01:05I am with Julay, who is a diver.

01:09She is the one who is supposed to charge the cellphones and flashlights of her fellow residents in Sitio Iligan.

01:19When we arrived at the site, Julay and I went home.

01:24Yes?

01:28Are you going to charge your gadgets?

01:30Yes.

01:32What are you going to charge?

01:35Flashlight? Cellphone?

01:36None.

01:39I also met Ann and her two-month-old daughter, Raedan.

01:44What is this for?

01:45Cellphone.

01:47Where do you use it?

01:48We use it for electricity.

01:51You use it for electricity at night?

01:53Yes.

01:56After we collected the cellphones and power banks that will be charged by the residents of the other barangay,

02:02we went down the mountain again to go to their charging station.

02:11It's still soft!

02:17Am I that heavy, Kuya?

02:21Yes, you are.

02:43We are now here at Barangay San Lorenzo.

02:47It's about 30 minutes away from Pampang earlier.

02:53We can watch TV.

02:54We can charge our gadgets.

02:58The residents of Angat Watershed, where this place is located, were encouraged to charge their gadgets.

03:03The electricity and water here is free, so they don't hesitate to charge their gadgets whenever they want.

03:11According to the 2023 Census on Population and Housing,

03:15more than 11 million Filipinos, or 2.4 million households in the Philippines, have no access to electricity.

03:23If they have access, they just have to charge their gadgets,

03:26or their electricity will run out in less than 4 to 6 hours per day.

03:33We have electrified over 15.01 hectares.

03:40We have 0.018 million household customers of electric cooperatives.

03:45We have gathered that there is a potential increase of 0.95% a year.

03:52Yes, we are covering the IP communities, both in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

04:00It's sad to think that in times of new technology, there are still communities left in the dark.

04:08I hope that the day will come when they will no longer have hope that they will have light.
