Delhi Mayor Reacts on Rajinder Nagar Tragedy: Illegal Coaching Centres Sealed, Officials Suspended

Following the tragic incident in Old Rajinder Nagar, where three students lost their lives due to flooding in a basement coaching centre, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has taken swift action. She reported that upon receiving news of the incident, she promptly visited the site and assessed the situation. In response, Mayor Oberoi has written to the MCD Commissioner, urging action against all illegal coaching centres in Delhi. This has resulted in a sealing drive in Rajinder Nagar, where 13 coaching centres were shut down, and an additional 6 were sealed today. A similar drive also took place in Mukherjee Nagar. Furthermore, a Junior Engineer was terminated and an Assistant Engineer was suspended as part of the crackdown on non-compliant institutions. 00:00By filling water in the basement of the coaching centre, three children died.

00:04As soon as I came to know of this incident, I went to the location and took a look.

00:09Seeing this sad incident, I wrote a letter to the MCD commissioner,

00:14in which I instructed that all the coaching centres in Delhi,

00:18which are operating in an unlawful manner,

00:20which are violating all the rules and regulations of MCD,

00:25take action on all of them.

00:27Secondly, all the responsible officers of the incident that took place the day before yesterday,

00:32take action on them as well.

00:34Yesterday itself, MCD started its action,

00:37and started a sealing drive in Rajinder Nagar,

00:40in which 13 coaching institutes were sealed.

00:44Even today, there was a sealing drive in Rajinder Nagar,

00:47where 6 coaching institutes were sealed,

00:50along with an encroachment drive.

00:52Today, there was a sealing drive in Mukherjee Nagar area as well.

00:56Along with this, the incident that took place the day before yesterday in Rajinder Nagar,

01:00its responsible officers terminated the JEE,

01:04and suspended the assistant engineer.

01:08And today, seeing the incident that took place the day before yesterday,

01:11an emergency meeting was called,

01:13in which the MCD commissioner was called,

01:15the PWD officer was called,

01:17and the Delhi Water Board officers were called.

01:20And a clear instruction was given,

01:23that all the illegal coaching centres operating in Delhi,

01:28which have the bylaws of MCD,

01:32do not have their permissions,

01:34all the rules and regulations are being violated,

01:38action should be taken on all those coaching centres,

01:41and no coaching centre should be spared,

01:44and any kind of negligence will not be tolerated.

01:49Secondly, if any officer is found responsible for such an incident,

01:55strict action will be taken on him as well.
