00:00Paris is the host of the 33rd Summer Olympic Games.

00:04Alongside London, it's the only city to have staged the Summer Games on three occasions.

00:09Around 10,500 athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees are taking part.

00:1650% of those athletes are women, making Paris the first Olympics to achieve full gender equality on the field of play.

00:24Athletes are competing across 32 sports, including breaking, which is making its Olympic debut.

00:31And there are 329 medal events, including 48 in athletics, the most of any individual sport.
