Perth cyclist Georgia Baker has paid tribute to her local butcher as she heads to the Paris Olympics. Video by Aaron Smith (24/7/24)

00:04We are in the small town of Perth, north of Tasmania.

00:08And Ben, can you feel it in the air?

00:12Man, that thing is hot!

00:15The unlikely relationship between a butcher and a baker ham.

00:18I know, who would have thought?

00:19Why are we here?

00:20Why are we here?

00:21Well, this shop over here is a personal favourite

00:26of a famous Perth local, Georgia Baker,

00:30who will be riding for Australia.

00:34Think about this time next week, what's happening Ben?

00:37Yeah, she's riding on the track in the Velodrome.

00:40She's doing three different events, so she could potentially win three gold medals.

00:43And in my hand, I have her all-time favourite steak.

00:51She comes back to Perth, every time she comes back here,

00:53she gets this exact order.

00:55She gets a peppered steak from this great butcher, The Sausage Shop,

00:58where Phil and Tanya have been supporting her ever since she's been a kid.

01:02They've supported me since I was a junior cyclist.

01:05I remember having fundraisers just for me to go to my Junior World Championships.

01:10I had the Bunnings, Sausage Sizzle, and they provided sausages, hamburgers,

01:15and they really supported me and got behind me.

01:18Every time I'm home, I obviously go there.

01:21The thing I always go for is the peppered steak.

01:23They do a great peppered steak.

01:25It's a bit of an old, it's an old recipe, peppered steak,

01:29but Georgia's always liked it, even since she was a little kid.

01:32So, you know, the local businesses would have all helped her in some way.

01:36So, and you know, she's a good kid.

01:39She deserves all the support she gets, decking out the shop.

01:43And yeah, everyone who goes through Perth is going to know

01:47that Georgia's one of our customers.

01:50She's done a marvellous job with her career.

01:53Like, she's got to travel the world and do what she loves,

01:57and she's pretty good at it.

01:59Every time Georgia comes home, she always calls in.

02:02So, you know, brings the medals in, shows us,

02:05and she's done that a fair few times.
