00:00The retired Penang Ferry, Pulau Kapas, sank at the Butterworth Wharf on Tuesday.
00:06Penang Port Commission General Manager Vijayandiaran R. Viswalingam said salvage efforts for the ferry were unsuccessful.
00:14He said the hull of the ferry had been rotting for some time, with corrosion setting in after it was left parked at the wharf since 2018.
00:23The commission will hold a meeting to decide whether to salvage the ferry or proceed with its complete scrapping.
00:29Vijayandiaran added that there were no takers for ferries to be converted into restaurants due to the high cost.
00:36Pulau Kapas is one of four ferries decommissioned on December 31, 2020, alongside Pulau Undan, Pulau Payar and Pulau Talang-Talang.
