00:12Companies around the world faced significant disruption on Friday due to the shutdown of

00:16Microsoft's cloud computing suites.

00:19The shutdown affected various sectors, including airlines, news outlets, brokerage houses,

00:24banks, media organizations, stock markets, government offices, and airports in countries

00:30such as Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, and India.

00:34According to DownDetector, a website that tracks real-time internet outages, Microsoft

00:39services, including Azure and Microsoft 365, were reported to be down globally in the past

00:4424 hours.

00:45The US saw 1,751 outages, while Pakistan experienced 25 Azure and 13 Microsoft 365 outages.

00:55Despite these reports, Haroon Baloch, Program Manager at digital rights organization Bytes

01:00for All, noted that the Azure shutdown did not cause any significant disruption to Pakistani

01:05institutions or airlines.

01:07Microsoft confirmed that the outage, which began at 6 p.m. Eastern Time, 3 a.m. Pakistan

01:12Standard Time, on Thursday affected a subset of our customers in the Central America region,

01:17causing issues with multiple Azure services.

01:20The company is investigating the issue affecting various Microsoft 365 apps and services, with

01:25efforts underway to mitigate the impact and restore normal functionality.

01:29IT security firm CrowdStrike acknowledged reports of crashes related to its Falcon sensor

01:34on Microsoft's Windows operating system, leading to the infamous blue screen of death.

01:39In the US, major airlines, including American Airlines, Delta Airlines, and United Airlines

01:45issued ground stops on Friday morning due to communication problems, shortly after Microsoft

01:49resolved the outage of cloud services.

01:52Although it was not immediately clear if the flight disruptions were directly related to

01:55the Microsoft shutdown, carriers such as Frontier Airlines, Allegiant, and Sincountry reported

02:01operational impacts.

02:02Frontier canceled 147 flights and delayed 212, while Allegiant and Sincountry also experienced

02:09significant delays.

02:10In Australia and New Zealand, outages affected media companies, retailers, banks, airlines,

02:17and telecom firms.

02:18The Commonwealth Bank of Australia reported disruptions to money transfers and National

02:22Airline Qantas, with Sydney Airport experiencing flight delays.

02:27Telecom's firm Telstra admitted the issue was causing disruptions for some of its customers.

02:32Australia's Office of the National Cyber Security Coordinator indicated that there was no information

02:37to classify the outage as a cyber security incident.
