Hundreds of thousands of people in the Houston area likely won’t have power restored until next week, as the city swelters in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl.

00:00It's a terrible situation for people who are in this heat, stores around them aren't open,

00:13where do you get food, etc., etc., etc., etc.

00:17And it's not a state function to operate that, but it is our state public utility commission

00:24to oversee it.

00:25We are always going to have big storms in this area.

00:28We have lots of trees that hit power lines, that's going to happen, but we have to be

00:32sure that they were prepared as they should have been before.

00:35My only comment on that, and I've had lots of meetings, lots of discussions, I sense

00:41that maybe they didn't see the impact that we had.

00:49They underestimated the impact of the storm and the direction of the storm.

00:53Right now, we'll get back and dissect what happened or didn't happen, but right now,

00:59I want every person at CenterPoint to have one job.
