00:00I'm going to try. I'm going to try. I'm going to try. I'm going to try.
00:14Here's the bar.
00:30I'm going to try.
00:53I'm going to try.
01:20I'm going to try.
01:36I'm going to try.
02:04I'm going to try.
02:28I'm going to try.
02:57I'm going to try.
03:26I'm going to try.
03:54I'm going to try.
04:14I'm going to try.
04:42I'm going to try.
05:10I'm going to try.
05:38I'm going to try.
06:06I'm going to try.
06:34I'm going to try.
07:02I'm going to try.
07:31I'm going to try.
07:43I'm going to try.
08:00I want to you that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be filled.
08:06This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
08:13Greater love has no man than this, for a man lay down his life for his friends.
08:20You are my friends if you do whatsoever I command you.
08:24These things I command you, that you love one another. Amen.
08:31We are stunned by the scale of the numbers.
08:35It is by reading the accounts of individuals and the grief in their families that bring the horror of war before us.
08:44This week I was deeply stirred by reading for the first time Pollock's War.
08:50Pollock's War, produced by the Ulster Scots Agency.
08:55The tales of the Reverend John Pollock, who succeeded a worshipful brother, the Reverend Hugh Hanna, in a church named St Enoch's,
09:04which stood at Carlisle Circus where we began our parade.
09:09It was the largest Protestant church in Ireland at that time, modeled upon St Enoch's from Glasgow City.
09:18John Pollock ministered in Glasgow before he came to our city where he was minister for over 30 years.
09:26His son Paul enlisted in the Young Citizen Volunteers and on the 1st of July 1916, the first day of the Battle of Somme,
09:37he was missing, believed killed in action.
09:40And when you read that account of the letters between the father and son and the mother and sister,
09:47it brings before us the sacrifice that was made by so many families in our city.
09:55I was interested, Reverend.
09:56Let our left grow old.
09:58Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
10:03At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.
