Jimmy, a disappointing day with the bat, particularly today.
00:05
What do you put the struggles down to today?
00:08
I think they were fairly bowling-friendly conditions
00:13
prior to and just after lunch,
00:16
and added to that I think England really exploited the conditions really well.
00:20
They were consistent, they got the ball to swing,
00:23
they didn't give us many freebies,
00:26
and maybe a little bit of inexperience on our part as well.
00:30
So I think a combination of those issues.
00:33
I guess you'd have expected Jimmy to come out firing today,
00:38
Jimmy Anderson, on his last test.
00:40
Were you expecting the show that Gus Atkinson put in on debut?
00:44
I think the England attack, all of their bowling attacks are world-class bowlers.
00:51
We haven't seen Gus bowl,
00:53
he's done pretty well in county cricket this season so far,
00:56
and he really put up a good show,
00:58
held his hand up and had pretty much a dream debut, I think.
01:02
And from the position that you find yourselves in after Day 1,
01:06
can you find a route back into this test match over the next few days?
01:10
Well, we try. It's going to be difficult,
01:13
but this is what Test Cricket is all about.
01:15
You have a bad day, you're going to have to think about it,
01:19
roll your sleeves up and come back on Day 2
01:21
and try and work your way back into the test match.
01:24
So we have seven wickets to get first of all,
01:27
and then hopefully bat for two days plus,
01:30
see where we are at the end of it.
01:31
Thank you.
01:37
Hey Jimmy, this is Varam Kazi from Pro Sports.
01:40
So there's been a lot of hue and cry over the non-selection of Kevin Sinclair,
01:46
and Kudu Keshmoti was preferred because he is a front-line,
01:49
slow left-arm, orthodox spinner.
01:51
What would you have to say about that selection call?
01:53
Because a lot of people are saying that the batting depth
01:55
could have been enhanced had Sinclair been in the line-up.
01:58
Yeah, you can't take away the impact that he had
02:02
in his debut test in Australia.
02:05
However, we felt that on this surface,
02:07
our best attack would have been the four seamers who played
02:10
and our number one spinner, who is Kudu Keshmoti.
02:13
It's good to know that we have someone with the talent
02:17
and ability of Kevin, and his time might come.
02:20
But for now, we thought that this was our strongest team for this surface.
02:24
And just on the debutant opener, Mikael Louis,
02:28
he looked mad impressive at the start, and he scored that six as well.
02:32
Do you think that he's someone that could represent West Indies in the long run?
02:36
We're keeping our fingers crossed.
02:38
It's not easy finding quality openers at international level.
02:41
He's a young man who's done very well in the regionals
02:45
that finished in April this year.
02:47
He deserves to be here, and we're keeping our fingers crossed
02:50
that we have found a long-term opening partner for the captain
02:56
and somebody who will serve West Indies for a long time.
02:59
Thank you.
03:07
Sorry, I'm not hearing you.
03:12
Sorry about that.
03:15
I was saying that in Australia we saw West Indies batters
03:18
kind of showing the composure and the basic sticking and the discipline.
03:21
Do you agree that at some point some of those batters
03:25
missed out on that today of converting good starts?
03:31
I think there was a combination.
03:33
I think there were some good deliveries that were bold.
03:36
I think in a couple of instances,
03:40
batsmen's hands might have gone too far out in front
03:43
for conditions like this and against the type of bowling that we had.
03:47
But I would qualify that by saying that
03:52
for young men who've never toured England,
03:55
and certainly with the exception of the captain and Jason Hall,
03:59
have never batted in conditions like this.
04:02
I think it's a real searching examination,
04:05
but I'll keep saying that for a young team and a young batting line-up,
04:09
I'd rather they learn these lessons early in their careers
04:12
and they can reflect, hopefully find short-term answers,
04:17
but I think it will make them better players going forward.
04:20
There's nothing to me like an England tour in English conditions
04:24
to find out, first of all, where you are as a batter,
04:28
but also to help you to improve as well.
04:39
Thank you.
