DILG nutrition program has helped children become healthier;

PNP conducted over 600 anti-illegal drug ops, arrested 800 individuals, seized P100-B worth of illegal drugs

00:00Besides ensuring a harmonious working relationship between the national government and the grassroots,
00:05the Department of the Interior and local government, along with law enforcement,
00:09is also at the forefront of government's anti-narcotics campaign. This report.
00:16In a recent conversation with DILG Secretary Ben-Hur Abolus Jr. on PTV's pre-sauna special,
00:23several significant topics were discussed.
00:25Aside from the work involving the police and local governments,
00:28one of the major responsibilities of the DILG is ensuring infant nutrition
00:33by focusing on a baby's health during its first 1,000 days of life.
00:38Due to the DILG's nutrition program, children are now healthier.
00:42This is a success attributed to the Secretary's previous record when he was the mayor of Mandaluyong.
00:48From Mandaluyong, we did this, we gave alternative food, we fed it,
00:53every day we checked, we weighed it.
00:56From Colella, we became number one in Metro Manila for six years,
00:59until we became number one in the most healthy babies in the Philippines after six years,
01:04the Nutrition Honor Award.
01:05So now, this is what we are doing now, on the ground.
01:09According to Secretary Abolus, it is crucial to ensure proper brain development in children
01:14at an earlier age for better upbringing.
01:17Currently, the DILG collaborates with other agencies, further strengthening the program.
01:41The DILG also played a significant role in enhancing the effectiveness
01:45of the PNP's drug operations over the past two years.
01:49Anti-Illegal Drugs Accomplishments
01:51Currently, the DILG is focusing on supporting local government units
01:55and improving their provinces and towns.
01:57This is being done through amendments to the local government code.
02:00And in the two years of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s administration,
02:04they have consolidated various expertise to refine 30 years of policy.
02:15He became a senator, he became a congressman.
02:17He told us to study all of that.
02:20Let's fix it one by one.
02:22Oh, this is heavy, TP, because all of the functions.
02:25So what happened now, our recommendation is that from now on,
02:29all of the education construction, it should be national.
02:33Do we need an amendment to the law?
02:36Yes, yes.
02:37That is what we will do, the amendment of the local government code.
02:41It is expected that a new version will be released
02:44showcasing a better relationship between national and local government units.
02:48The DILG has more accomplishments that the president will lay out and tout
02:52during the State of the Nation Address on July 22.
