Peruvian police and mountain rescue workers recovered the body of an American climber, William Stampfl, who went missing in 2002 as glaciers in Peru's highest mountain and surrounding area continue to retreat.

00:08who went missing in 2002 as glaciers in Peru's highest mountain.
00:13In a statement, police said the body of William Stamfel was recovered on July 5 at an altitude
00:19of 5,200 meters above sea level.
00:22The 58-year-old Stamfel had been trying to climb the 6,768 meters of Mount Huascaran.
00:30Police said the mummified skeletal corpse still had well-preserved climbing boots, crampons
00:35and clothing, as well as a driver's license and passport.
00:39Stamfel is suspected to have died in an avalanche more than 20 years ago.
00:44It was reported Stamfel was with his friends Matthew Richardson and Steve Erskine when
00:49they attempted the climb.
00:51Erskine's body was found shortly after the avalanche, but Richardson's is still missing.
