Transcript
00:00Two weeks before the start of the Paris Olympics,
00:03the Secretary-General of the Philippines, Patapa,
00:07gave an update on the situation of the Philippine Olympics in the field of athletics.
00:11This is Rafael Bandayrel's report.
00:15Three Philippine athletes from the Olympics are from the field of athletics.
00:22They are the World No. 2 pole vaulter, EJ Obiena,
00:25and the hurdlers, Lauren Hoffman and John Cabang-Tolentino.
00:30As the Secretary-General of the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association,
00:35Jasper Tanhueco has high confidence that these three athletes will give good performances.
00:42This was discussed in the latest edition of the Philippine Sports Writers Association Forum
00:47at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
00:51We just need to believe with our athletes.
00:54We're positive and confident that they're going to perform at the highest level.
01:00So hopefully, that's their goal.
01:05They're not there just to participate.
01:08They're there, of course, to hopefully bring meta to our country.
01:13It's also not a secret that Obiena has high expectations to win a medal.
01:19Tanhueco also believes that Tondo Manila is ready for this opportunity.
01:26Hopefully, this will happen.
01:28It's really up to them.
01:30But we just need to believe with EJ.
01:36In terms of his PB, his season's best, I think he's there.
01:41For now, Obiena is in France because he was absent at the Meeting de Paris last Saturday.
01:48Meanwhile, Cabang Tolentino is still in Spain while Hoffman is preparing for his camp in the United States.
