00:00Every July, we celebrate Nutrition Month, and it's not just a simple celebration, Audrey,
00:06but it's also a good opportunity to pay attention to the proper nutrition in the daily lives of our fellow countrymen.
00:15So fellow countrymen, we will now give details on the activities of the National Nutrition Council this year.
00:23We will now welcome the Nutrition Officer 2 of NNC, Mr. Jevsen Bandong.
00:28Sir, good morning and welcome back to Rise and Shine in the Philippines.
00:33Yes, good morning to all the viewers of your program.
00:39Sir, good morning.
00:41Sir, what are the activities of the National Nutrition Council this month
00:47to improve the well-being of Filipinos in terms of proper nutrition?
00:53Yes, we know that Nutrition Month is the most popular nutrition activity,
01:00especially in our local government units.
01:03Sometimes, when we say nutrition,
01:06this is where our local government units really put their budget,
01:13what are the habits of the year.
01:16So, if we remember, we can see our students, especially the young ones,
01:23are growing fruits or vegetables.
01:25So, that is what we are aiming for,
01:28so that we can get the hearts of our people,
01:35so that they know what is the proper nutrition.
01:39Because we want to change their beliefs or their behavior,
01:43and to know that proper nutrition is really important for our well-being.
01:49And this can be felt by every family,
01:53even if our life is a bit of a mess.
01:59We still continue our various activities,
02:03local governments, communities, barangays.
02:08We also have activities through social media,
02:11different advocacy campaigns, nutrition promotion,
02:16and usual advocacy for Nutrition Month.
02:22Sir Jefferson, let's talk about the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition.
02:28How can we expand this and reach our fellow Filipinos,
02:34even in remote areas?
02:37Yes, the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition
02:41is our most strategic plan that we will follow
02:46so that we can reach our goal or objective,
02:50which is, of course, to promote malnutrition
02:53in any area across all ages.
02:57So, meaning, we want to give the message that every life is important,
03:04that proper nutrition is needed to be healthy and productive.
03:10In the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition,
03:12first of all, we want to lower the figures
03:18of obese and fat people.
03:21This is a type of malnutrition.
03:23Because we are encouraging all sectors,
03:28not just us in the nutrition or health sector,
03:31but all of us together.
03:33Our tagline is,
03:35Nutrition is enough for everyone.
03:37So that all of our stakeholders,
03:42our partners, can help each other.
03:44Because malnutrition is not a joke.
03:48Malnutrition is not just about being fat,
03:52obese, or small.
03:54Our children, for example,
03:58are the only ones we consider malnourished.
04:02Another type of malnutrition is micronutrient-deficient,
04:09meaning in vitamins and minerals.
04:11And the most alarming thing now is that
04:15the number of fat or obese individuals is increasing.
04:21Not just in children,
04:23but also in adolescents and adults.
04:28So we want to solve this problem
04:32through the different programs and projects
04:35in the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition.
04:39All sectors should be involved
04:42in our fight against malnutrition.
04:47Sir, how can the National Nutrition Council
04:51help the local governments?
04:53Because they are the front line.
04:55They are the ones who are known to their communities.
04:58They are the ones who need proper nutrition.
05:04Definitely, the National Nutrition Council
05:07is working with our local government units.
05:11We provide technical assistance,
05:14we provide training,
05:17so that all programs can be implemented for nutrition.
05:22So we are not just confined to the feeding program.
05:27Because when it comes to nutrition,
05:29the idea of our local leaders is limited to feeding programs.
05:36We also provide them with different methods
05:40to address malnutrition in their area.
05:44So more than just feeding,
05:47we also teach them how to take care of their babies
05:52from the moment they are born.
05:59That is what we call the first 1,000 days program.
06:06So at least at the very first time
06:10when the mother gives birth,
06:14we make sure that all the nutrition
06:18that the mother needs to give birth
06:22is enough for the baby to be healthy.
06:26The baby will not be added to the list of stunted
06:30or underweight.
06:33And of course, we also make sure
06:36that we still have action
06:38that is not directly related to nutrition,
06:40but still has an effect.
06:42For example, cleaning the environment
06:44so that the patients will not get sick.
06:49We also provide proper facilities for the patients
06:54so that they can access the facilities
06:57provided by our local government units.
07:00It is important to put in place
07:03with the efforts of the partnership
07:06coordinated by the National Nutrition Council
07:09and the various government agencies
07:12and the private sector.
07:14Okay, Sir Jepsen, what are the ways
07:17to ensure that the programs of the National Nutrition Council
07:21are inclusive and serve all sectors of society,
07:25especially our poor countrymen?
07:29Yes, all of those things are included
07:34in our Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition.
07:37So, multi-sectoral, multi-level,
07:40everything is inclusive.
07:42We do not leave anyone out.
07:45So, whether we are in the public sector
07:49or the private sector,
07:51we encourage everyone to help
07:55the National Nutrition Council
07:57and local government units
07:59to implement our programs for nutrition.
08:04So, all of their needs
08:08are fulfilled by any agency,
08:11office, or sector
08:13so that we can achieve
08:16to lower the number of malnutrition in our country.
08:25So, as the National Nutrition Council,
08:29we really want to give attention
08:34to the importance of having
08:39a healthy and nutritious community.
08:42Alright, thank you very much, Sir Jepsen,
08:45for giving us information and details
08:48about the activities of the National Nutrition Council
08:51this month of Nutrition.
08:53Mr. Jepsen Bandong, again, thank you very much.
08:56Thank you very much, Sir.
08:58Yes, thank you very much,
09:00to PIPAN, to Masama, to Nutrition Sapat,
09:03to everyone.
09:04Good morning to everyone.
