00:00We're into the last few days of the Tour de France 1997 and having attacks from the breakaway
00:13with 26km remaining, two riders are preparing to go head to head for victory in Dijon.
00:19Stage 19 will go to either Jens Heppner of Germany in the white with the pink sleeves
00:24or the Dutchman Bart Voskamp who is the first to make his move.
00:31Voskamp getting a small gap but Heppner reacts well and it's at this point that things start
00:35to get messy.
00:37The two riders coming together elbow to elbow and nearly crashing on the finish straights.
00:43Voskamp already the winner of a Tour de France stage the previous year is the first to cross
00:47the line but the race commissaires decide to have a second look.
00:53There have already been a couple of sprint relegations earlier in this race for Eric
00:57Zabel on stage 6 and Sergei Ushakov on stage 11.
01:01The aerial shots provide a different angle of the clash and after looking at the pictures
01:06the commissaires decide to relegate both riders for an irregular sprint.
01:17And so to everybody's surprise, including his own, Mario Traversoni finds himself preparing
01:22to stand on the winner's podium.
01:24The Italian won the sprint behind for third place before being bumped up to first.
01:29This was his only Grand Tour stage win and no doubt the biggest victory of his career.
