AI won’t kill us, but climate change will if we don't act, says leading advertising CEO

David Jones has worked on many famous advertising campaigns, but now his focus is climate change.

00:00People go, oh, AI is going to kill us.

00:01It's like, it probably isn't.

00:02But what will kill us is climate change if we don't act.

00:05And actually, if you put all the data into the AI models

00:08and said, should we do something about this or not,

00:11they would all say, no, you should probably

00:13do something about that quite quickly,

00:15or you will be extinct.

00:16I am the founder and CEO of the Brandtech Group.

00:19We're the world's largest digital-only marketing

00:21group and the world's largest generative AI marketing

00:23company.

00:24And I've had a kind of career on the one side

00:27working with a lot of the large agencies globally.

00:30And I guess the other side of what I've done

00:32is always done a lot of work in and around charity and purpose.

00:36And back in 2009, I founded One Young World

00:39with Kate Robertson, which today is the world's largest charity

00:42for young leaders striving change.

00:44I'm an optimist, but the one thing I'm not optimistic about

00:46is climate and the lack of action.

00:48And if you have been born lucky, which I clearly have,

00:51I can't do anything about that.

00:52But what I can do is I can use the position I've been given

00:54to do good in the world.

00:55I'm passionate about what the creative industries

00:58and what creativity can do to drive change in the world.

01:01We're not naive enough to believe,

01:02oh, we've created One Young World

01:04and we've solved all the world's problems.

01:06But there's some amazing stuff already starting to happen,

01:09and I really feel like we're just getting going.

01:11Today, One Young World has impacted the lives

01:15of over 50 million people.

01:17The breadth and depth of initiatives

01:19that the One Young World leaders are doing around areas

01:22from refugees, to climate, to gender equality,

01:26to anti-rape laws being passed.

01:28I mean, we've had Time 100 members,

01:31we've had multiple Nobel Peace Prize nominees,

01:35and it's just an amazing generation.

01:38People often say they're the future leaders.

01:39Like, no, they're not, they're leading now.

01:41They're already driving the change.

01:43And I think Kate, my co-founder, grew up in South Africa,

01:47and she kind of nailed it almost by saying like,

01:49if we get this right, we'll find the next Mandela.
