00:00The Kuala Lumpur High Court has allowed an application by former Prime Minister Datuk
00:07Seri Najib Razak to appear as the second putative respondent in a judicial review application
00:13filed by the Malaysian Bar relating to his royal pardon.
00:18With the leave, Najib, represented by his lawyer Tan Sri Mohammed Shafi Abdullah, could
00:23respond and argue in the ex parte application by the Bar.
00:27Justice Ahmad Kamal Mohammed Shahid on Tuesday granted Najib's application on grounds of
00:32justice and public interest after hearing brief submissions from parties.
00:38The court fixed September 18 for hearing on the Bar's main leave application.
00:42On April 26, the Bar filed the application for leave to commence a judicial review against
00:48the Pardons Board's decision to reduce Najib's sentence in the SRC International Sendirian
00:54Berhad case.
00:56It named the Federal Territories Pardons Board and Najib as the first and second respondents,
01:02respectively.
01:03According to court documents, the Bar is seeking a declaration that the decision by the first

01:15unconstitutional and void.
01:18The decision was to reduce Najib's imprisonment sentence by 50 percent, whereby he would be
01:23granted an early release on August 23, 2028, and to reduce his 210 million ringgit fine
01:31to 50 million ringgit in default of a year in jail.
