Finnish PM urges parliament not to water down controversial deportation bill

If passed into law, the legislation would allow Finnish border authorities to refuse to accept asylum applications in certain circumstances.

00:16Finland, which shares 1,340 km border with Russia, accuses the Kremlin of encouraging asylum seekers to cross their shared frontier.

00:27The law that we passed can of course be amended by the Parliament, but it doesn't justify it.

00:35It doesn't make sense to make a deportation bill that doesn't work.

00:40There is a limit to that, and the Parliament and the Government must assess it.

00:45In my opinion, from the point of view of the Prime Minister, Finland needs this law.

00:50I hope that the Parliament will find a solution so that the 5th and 6th amendments can be passed, and after that we can be more secure.
