00:00France's far-right National Rally, or RN Party, wins the first round of parliamentary
00:05elections on Sunday, June 30.
00:08Exit polls show the RN won around 34 percent of the vote, left-wing New Popular Front Alliance
00:13won 29 percent, while President Emmanuel Macron's Together Alliance won only about 20 percent
00:19of the vote.
00:20This is a huge setback for Macron, who called the snap election after his ticket loss to
00:25the RN in the European Parliament elections in early June.
00:29The RN is now closer to power than it's ever been as its leader Marine Le Pen has sought
00:33to clean up the image of a party known for racism and anti-Semitism, a tactic that has
00:38worked amid voter anger at Macron, the high cost of living, and growing immigration concerns.
00:44The second round of the elections will be held on July 7, which will determine the party
00:48that will control France's parliament.
