Tonisha, you described the defective block concrete scheme as the biggest
00:05
redress scheme in the history of the state and gave the impression to people
00:09
around the state that everybody would be sorted. I can tell you, and you know this,
00:13
that most families in Donegal, I can speak with authority with that, cannot
00:18
access the scheme because they'll have to find between 50,000 and 150,000 euro
00:23
to veil of the scheme. There's been packed rooms and public meetings, two in
00:28
Donegal, one in Mayo. The scheme isn't working. Will you now ensure that like
00:33
what happened for Pyrite, for over 3,000 families in Dublin and North Leinster
00:38
who got 100% redress, will you now deliver a scheme that's genuine 100%
00:44
redress for families in Donegal, Mayo, Sligo and right down the west of Ireland?
00:48
Thank you, Deputy. I have to say, it is a huge scheme and the allocation that has been
00:54
committed to this by government is enormous. That's just a fact. I'm not
00:59
giving impressions that the scale of this is such and I do understand fully
01:03
the plight of many, many householders whose houses essentially, first of all,
01:09
quite a number of uninhabitable and real distress caused and anxiety causes as a
01:14
result of the mica. But there's been a number of refinements. I mean the
01:23
scheme has replaced the scheme that you would have earlier supported, the first
01:26
scheme. The scheme is significantly better than that scheme. My understanding
01:31
is a lot of people are now applying to the scheme, are
01:33
participants in the scheme and are getting their houses refurbished. I ask
01:39
the Minister of Housing again for an update in respect of you raising the
01:42
question today.
