00:00There's a new government system in place to help keep you and your family safe from
00:06dangerously high temperatures.
00:08It's called HeatRisk, and it's an online tool that provides a seven-day forecast for
00:13heatwaves across the country.
00:15The map will have real-time and forecasted heat and air quality information, as part
00:20of a broader effort to keep people safe from heat and the medical risks it can cause.
00:26Extreme heat is now the deadliest type of weather event in the U.S., killing more people
00:31each year than floods, extreme cold, and tornadoes.
00:34Officials with NOAA say they hope these new resources will help communities plan for the
00:39upcoming summer months, with temperatures through May and June expected to be above
00:44average nationwide.
00:46And while the tool has been publicly released, the project is still under active development.
00:50Members of the public can submit feedback to the National Weather Service through the
00:54end of September.
