00:08Malaysia is expected to start exporting fresh durians to China within the next few months.
00:14He said the volume of fresh durians allowed to be exported to China will depend on China's
00:20General Administration of Customs.
00:22He said the durians will undergo tests to meet the biosecurity requirements in China,
00:28and once the requirements are met, the fruits are expected to hit the Chinese market in
00:32September or October.
00:34He said this after attending a gathering with farmers and fishermen in Johor on Thursday.
00:39The export of fresh durians to China is part of the 14 Memorandum of Understanding signed
00:45between the governments of both countries during the official visit of Chinese Premier
00:49Lee Chiang to Malaysia last week.
00:55Currently, only the export of frozen durians and processed durian products are allowed
01:01into China.
01:03The increasing demand for Malaysian durian in China saw both countries further opening
01:08up their markets.
