00:00It's Benzinga, and here's what's on the block.
00:03Judge Juan Merchant has partially lifted the gag order he imposed on former President Trump
00:07during his criminal trial in New York.
00:09The gag order previously barred Trump from making public statements about witnesses,
00:13counsel, and court and DA staff and their families.
00:16Merchant's new ruling allows Trump to now speak publicly about protected witnesses and
00:20jurors from the trial.
00:22However, Trump is still prohibited from commenting on individual prosecutors, court staff, and
00:27their families until after his sentencing on July 11.
00:30The gag order was imposed at the start of Trump's trial to protect the integrity of
00:34the judicial proceedings.
00:35Trump's lawyers argued the full gag order violated his First Amendment rights and those
00:40of his supporters.
