Celebrities join thousands at Restore Nature Now protest

Thousands of people are expected to join the rally in London today. It’s the first time the big mainstream organisations including the National Trust and RSPB have joined direct action campaigners for this Restore Nature Now March. Celebrities like Chris Packham, Emma Thompson and Iwan Rheon are joining the event, with organisers saying they want it be a family friendly affair. Many of the 350 campaign groups will be wearing fancy dress, including crabs, badgers and dragon fly wing costumes. But amongst the colour of this event is a strong message to politicians of all colours not to ignore the nature crisis - with calls for whoever forms the next government to take “bold steps” to tackle it. 00:00Today is about bringing all of these people together to share their commonality.

00:03We all love life here and we want to protect that life and make sure that we've got healthy lives,

00:07not just for us and our children, but everything that creeps, crawls, slithers, climbs and stings

00:11on this planet. And this is a day where all of the organisations are putting their differences

00:16to one side and sharing their similarities. We found a commonality here and it's a union

00:21that's going to be really important. Yeah, again, it's just a chance for us to

00:26say to the people, whoever's going to be sitting in the government in the next election, that we

00:31care and it's their responsibility as well to protect our nature and the nature that everybody

00:37loves. And we need nature as a species in order to thrive.
