Chicagoans react to early-season heat wave

Three days of extreme heat in Chicago had many people seeking relief from the heat at the city's beaches and pools.

00:00Summertime shy got off to an early start this year, with temperatures in the 90s days before the official start of summer.

00:08Millions of people did their very best to stay cool.

00:11Keeping a lot of fluids, a lot of water, keeping water on hand for her.

00:15Right on time for the sweltering heat.

00:17The winter is so long here, you wait for the burst of heat and we're feeling it.

00:25Chicago's public pools and splash pads open Monday for the season as planned.

00:30How are you enjoying the splash pad today?

00:32Really fun. I like going under there and getting splashed when it dumps over.

00:38Yeah, I think we're going to be here all week.

00:40I know my kids really enjoy it, so happy that it's close by.

00:44With 90 degree weather more common later in the season, many were pleased with the early taste of summer.

00:50So compared to other summers, do you think this one's starting off much hotter?

00:54Definitely hotter. Yeah.

00:57Yeah, I mean some summers it feels like you have to have your coats on right now.

01:01So right now it's, yeah, it feels like July or August. It does not feel like June.

01:07The hot weather has many wondering if the rest of the summer will be like this.

01:11I kind of told my family earlier that I said this is going to be a blistering summer, and I still believe it.

01:17I think we're going to go all the way probably to October with heat.
