Major power outage hits Balkan countries as region swelters in heatwave

Southeastern Europe has been slammed by a seasonally early heatwave coupled with rampant power outages. Both are leaving Balkan countries at a standstill.

00:07It comes off the back of an early June heatwave that saw temperatures climb to a sizzling

00:13Croatian officials blamed faulty energy infrastructure between Greece and Albania for the blackouts.

00:35Bosnia's state power company said the outage was caused by problems in a regional distribution

00:45Montenegrin officials said the increased daily load compounded by high temperatures led to

00:51The energy infrastructure collapse led to businesses shuttering, traffic gridlock and

01:18imposed emergency safety measures.

01:21Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia and Albania have shared interconnected power grids since 1990.
