00:00Welcome to MsMojo and today we're looking at some of the standout videos of the 2000s
00:12that for one reason or another, we just can't get out of our heads.
00:2310.
00:24Hero – Enrique Iglesias Enrique Iglesias dropped his track Hero just
00:358 days before the tragic events of 9-11.
00:38But given the lyrics, it was one of the songs New York DJs ended up remixing with sounds
00:43from Ground Zero and it became a sort of anthem to the heroes of that tragic day.
00:54The song would go on to sell over 8 million copies and Iglesias would star in a music
01:00video as a criminal on the run with Jennifer Love Hewitt, all the while being pursued by
01:05Mickey Rourke.
01:13The power of the song and the star power of the video make this one worth coming back
01:17to.
01:209.
01:25Toxic – Britney Spears When it comes to music videos from the first
01:36half of the 2000s, Britney Spears has some of the most iconic images of the time.
01:41And while the red latex one-piece from Oops I Did It Again might be the outfit with which
01:46she is most identified, the video for Toxic is the one we still come back to more than
01:52any other.
01:59Not only did the song stand out as a departure from Spears' typical sound, the video also
02:05stood out for its exciting visuals and earned Spears 4 VMA nominations, including Video
02:11of the Year.
02:16We also can't forget her rhinestone nude bodysuit, which most definitely gives the
02:20red latex one-piece a run for its money.
02:268.
02:28Hey Ya – OutKast The video sees Andre 3000 playing every member
02:40of the band The Love Below on a British variety show in this fun play on The Beatles' first
02:45appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show back in 1964.
02:49The video was a huge hit, taking home Video of the Year honors at the MTV Video Music
02:55Awards, and the song itself is often remembered as one of the best of the decade.
03:07We also have to give OutKast and the video props for introducing a whole new generation
03:12to the concept of Polaroid photography.
03:19In fact, the refrain of Shake it like a Polaroid picture actually gave the Polaroid company
03:25a noticeable boost at the time.
03:317.
03:36You're Beautiful – James Blunt Sometimes less is more, and that's definitely
03:46the case with this classic James Blunt video from 2005.
03:50Less action, and for Blunt by the end of the song, less clothes.
04:00In the video, Blunt slowly strips down till he's only wearing his pants, at which time
04:05he turns, runs, and jumps off the cliff into the water below.
04:10Blunt wrote the song after seeing his ex with a new guy.
04:13She and him made eye contact for a moment, but didn't say anything.
04:23The haunting and painful lyrics match the vast emptiness of the video's setting, and
04:28the image of Blunt sitting half-naked in the cold is one fans still haven't forgotten.
04:386.
04:41Whenever Wherever – Shakira Although it was 2006 when Shakira officially
04:52told us that her hits didn't lie, after 2001's Whenever Wherever, we already believed
04:57everything she and her amazing hips were telling us.
05:04The video placed Shakira and those truth-telling hips in a number of different settings, from
05:09the ocean to the desert to a snowy mountaintop, and she sang and danced her way into our hearts
05:15and minds in each and every location.
05:22The song was Shakira's big break in the States, and the video just accentuated that
05:27stardom that would continue for the rest of the decade.
05:335.
05:36No One – Alicia Keys Alicia Keys burst onto the scene in 2001 with
05:41her album Songs in A Minor and its first single, Fallen.
05:45She went on to drop a total of four albums that decade, with a whole bunch of singles
05:50and a number of great music videos.
05:58One of these was No One, a beautiful love song that became the sixth biggest hit of
06:02the 2000s and a video that showcases Keys' stunning beauty, amazing voice, and powerful
06:09charisma.
06:16To paraphrase the uber-talented Ms. Keys, no one can get in the way of what we feel
06:21when we watch this video.
06:264.
06:29Back to Black – Amy Winehouse Amy Winehouse only released two albums before
06:40her sad and untimely death, but there's no doubting the mark she left on the music
06:44of the 2000s.
06:54She was already a star by the time her second album Back to Black came out in 2006, and
06:59it only raised her star even further into the musical sky.
07:03The album won her a Grammy and has been called one of the major influences for the growth
07:08of the British soul music scene of the aughts.
07:18Following her death in 2011, fans everywhere flocked back to the record and the title track,
07:24with its dark themes of love lost, sadness, and depression.
07:28As of this writing, the video has over 1 billion views on YouTube.
07:363.
07:40Party in the USA – Miley Cyrus There are no doubt many people are re-watching
07:51Miley Cyrus' Teen Choice Awards pole dance Party in the USA performance, but with over
07:56980 million views on YouTube, there are obviously a whole lot of folks still grooving to the
08:02official Party in the USA music video, and it ain't just the Bard and Bellas.
08:12Co-written by Jessie J, the British pop star decided not to record it and eventually made
08:17its way to Cyrus, who personalized it and turned it into a diamond-certified mega-hit
08:22in 2009.
08:23Throw in an ode to Greece, and we're still going back to this music video every chance
08:34we get.
08:372.
08:41Single Ladies Put a Ring on It – Beyonce Everything about this video has become an
08:51iconic part of the pop culture since the 21st century.
08:59The expression put a ring on it has entered our popular lexicon, and the single ladies
09:04dance became a phenomenon worthy of Saturday Night Live parodies and rugby pre-game fun.
09:10It's just three women dancing, but the beautiful spell Beyonce and her co-stars put on us makes
09:16this forever re-watchable.
09:23Not to mention the fact that the track won Song of the Year at the Grammys and took home
09:27Video of the Year honors from MTV.
09:34Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
09:38I Write Sins Not Tragedies – Panic! at the Disco
09:42It would be a tragedy if we couldn't re-watch this video.
09:52One More Time – Daft Punk We always want to watch this one more time.
10:04Seven Nation Army – The White Stripes A cavalcade of triangles and that unforgettable
10:10guitar riff.
10:19Stan – Eminem A full visual representation of one of Eminem's
10:24best tracks.
10:32Get Your Freak On – Missy Elliott Energetic, original, and influential.
10:36It's a great video for a great song.

11:03Bad Romance – Lady Gaga Lady Gaga as a performer and creator is endlessly
11:14re-watchable.
11:16Her beats are catchy, her lyrics are relatable, and her music videos are often highly original
11:21and visually daring.
11:29Bad Romance is no exception.
11:31The premise of the music video is Gaga being drugged and abducted by supermodels who sell
11:36her to the Russian mafia.
11:38But the story here is secondary to the feast for the eyes that is the video.
11:49Bathhouse Pods, floating diamonds, latex outfits inspired by Where the Wild Things
11:54Are, and a flame-throwing bra?
11:56We love to hear the song almost as much as we love watching the video.
