00:00Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the top 10 choreographed
00:10dance music videos of each year, 2000 to 2009, taking into consideration the dancing
00:16and the overall video.
00:222000
00:24Oops I Did It Again
00:25Britney Spears
00:30At the turn of the century, Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears were the pop couple everyone
00:37was talking about, as were the two videos they each released that year. Along with his
00:42boy bandmates, JT gave the world Bye Bye Bye. And while it's great, it was his better
00:52half Britney who broke free with Oops I Did It Again. Not only did it have more dancing,
00:57but Spears did most of it in a skin-tight PVC suit.
01:06Now, we're not professional dancers, but we're pretty sure that isn't easy.
01:10And we definitely also have to mention JLo, who told us that love don't cost a thing
01:15while tossing expensive jewelry, dancing on a postcard, and rolling around in the sand.
01:252001
01:26Weapon of Choice
01:27Fatboy Slim featuring Bootsy Collins
01:37Christopher Walken dancing and flying around the empty lobby of the Marriott Hotel in Los
01:42Angeles. Need we say more? We needn't, but we shall. The brilliance of the video is in
01:48the contradictions.
01:49It's a simple premise set in the large, grand lobby. It's the reality of a guy dancing around,
02:00mixed with the flying. And it's Christopher Walken,
02:04the guy who stuck a watch up his butt and asked for more cowbell, dancing. And dancing well.
02:10In April 2002, VH1 surveyed the music industry and selected the top 100 videos of all time.
02:17Weapon of Choice came in at number one.
02:262002
02:27Dirty
02:27Christina Aguilera featuring Redman
02:30When a video starts with Christina Aguilera in underwear and leather chaps riding a motorcycle
02:35into a nightclub, you know you're in for something good. And back in 2002, we sure were.
02:45Matching the title of the song, Aguilera didn't want anything clean and pretty.
02:50She wanted the video to be dirty and gritty.
02:58Combine that with some great, aggressive choreography, and this one comes out on top of
03:032002. Although, we would be remiss if we didn't mention Missy Elliott and the Work It video,
03:14which came out that same year and featured great dancing and live bees.
03:18Yes, those were actual live honeybees.
03:252003
03:26Crazy in Love
03:27Beyonce featuring Jay-Z
03:34Booty shaking, model posing, great choreography, and about five or more costume changes.
03:40Whether she's dancing on her own or with a group of gorgeous backup dancers,
03:44you can't take your eyes off the queen bee in this video.
03:53Throw in an awesome featured rap by her king, and it's easy to see why we're crazy in love
03:58with this one from 2003. And we aren't the only ones. The video took home the awards for best
04:04female video, best R&B video, and best choreography at the MTV Video Music Awards that year.
04:162004
04:17Yeah!
04:17Usher featuring Lil Jon and Ludacris
04:27Usher has been described by some as his generation's Michael Jackson,
04:30so it's appropriate that his video for Yeah! harkened back almost 25 years to the King of
04:35Pop's Rock With You. And although the video's director, Mr. X, wasn't thinking about the
04:40Jackson video when they conceived it, he told MTV that it did come to mind while they were shooting.
04:51The dance sequences in the video grow from solo Usher cuts to awesome group work.
04:56And while those are great choreographed dances,
04:59much of the solo Usher stuff was conceived on the spot.
05:07As X told MTV, quote,
05:09Those dance moves are all in his head.
05:11Moves we wanna watch again, so please excuse us while we take that and rewind it back.
05:202005
05:22Lose Control
05:23Missy Elliott featuring Ciara and Fatman Scoop
05:26I got a cute face, chubby waist, thick legs in shape
05:312005 was a good year for music videos. And when it came to dancing, the best of the best
05:36found themselves on opposite ends of the spectrum. On one end, we were introduced
05:41to OK Go with a one-take video of four guys dancing on motorized treadmills.
05:51And on the other end, we got Missy Elliott and a group of amazing dancers in all varieties of
05:56settings and outfits. They're both so different, but you can't look away from either of them.
06:06And while the creativity of the treadmill dance is endearing,
06:09Missy's Lose Control video attacks us with music, visuals, dancing, and a levitating Tommy Lee.
06:16It was the most played video on BET and MTV2 that year, and we understand why.
06:272006
06:30Hips Don't Lie
06:31Shakira featuring Wyclef Jean
06:38Wyclef probably wasn't the only one who didn't know that Shakira could dance like this.
06:43But after the Hips Don't Lie video came out in 2006, everyone knew the truth.
06:48And with that, the Colombian singer's hips became the most famous in the world.
06:56The video itself is pretty simple, with a few sets and costume changes,
07:01and it keeps its focus on Shakira.
07:08But given her awe-inspiring and mesmerizing hips, we aren't lying when we say the video
07:13could've been Shakira alone in an empty room and still would've been the best of the year.
07:182007
07:24Umbrella
07:24Rihanna featuring Jay-Z
07:30Rihanna's dancing in the Umbrella video is rather simplified,
07:34but she does it all with such a sultry grace that she commands the screen.
07:38It's been said that this video is responsible for Rihanna going from girl next door to sex symbol,
07:43and it's easy to see why.
07:48Also, the visuals of each section of the video are quite impressive,
07:54particularly the way she moves around the computer-generated water
07:58and the Goldfinger-esque full-body silver paint job.
08:02And as cool as the final act is with RiRi and her dancers performing in the rain of fire,
08:06we might have to give the very slight edge to Tom Holland when it comes to the rain dancing.
08:112008
08:18Single Ladies, Put A Ring On It
08:20Beyonce
08:25As good as Lady Gaga's Poker Face video was, the best to come out of 2008 was a video with a lot
08:31more dancing and a lot less everything else. A black and white video of three women dancing on
08:36an empty stage might not sound like a great concept, but it is if one of those women is
08:41Beyonce. This 2009 MTV Video of the Year award winner was inspired by Mexican Breakfast,
08:52a 1969 dance choreographed by Bob Fosse.
08:56Don't treat me to these things of the world, I'm not that kind of girl.
09:02According to Beyonce, they kept much of the Fosse choreo and added the J setting,
09:07where one person does something and the next person follows.
09:16For anyone who thinks it's easy, just watch Justin,
09:19Andy, and Bobby attempt to keep up with Queen B.

09:45Bad Romance, Lady Gaga
09:47Gaga, ooh la la, what's your bad romance?
09:51While Lady Gaga just missed out on the top spot for 2008,
09:54she easily topped our list with the video for her 2009 hit, Bad Romance.
09:59The basic idea of the video is Gaga being kidnapped and drugged by supermodels,
10:04who proceed to sell her to the Russian mafia for a million rubles.
10:08Gaga has said that she loved working with director Francis Lawrence because she knew she,
10:13could give him all my weirdest, most psychotic ideas, and he would make it work.
10:25But whether you understand that's what is happening or not, it doesn't really matter,
10:30because this amazingly weird and wonderful music video is great regardless.
10:35The costumes, the sets, and all the dancing complement the catchy beat, and all that iconic
10:42Gaga. Ooh la la, what's your bad romance?
