00:00We'll be right back.
00:06But still blazing hot there out
00:10in Omaha is the Men's College
00:12World Series. Three games
00:14yesterday. Ben, this is where I
00:15want to start. Explain to the
00:17people why Florida could win
00:19fifteen to four, then lose on
00:21the same day and be taking a
00:23trip back home here. Why was
00:25Florida playing two games
00:26yesterday? So, it was the true
00:28reason why could have their
00:30season come to a close in the
00:32opener at 11 a.m. Eastern time
00:34between the Gators of Florida
00:36and the Kentucky Wildcats
00:38because of a postponement due
00:40to weather for the game that
00:42was originally scheduled on
00:44Tuesday evening. A tough draw
00:46for Florida. But what happens
00:48at times with weather, I will
00:50not let Donny right side
00:52comment on that. The Gators
00:54were illustrious though in that
00:56seven runs in the first inning
00:58they added on two more in the
01:00second. They scored fifteen in
01:02total to blow out the cats and
01:04send Kentucky packing from its
01:06first ever appearance at the
01:08Men's College World Series
01:10fifteen to four. Jack Caglione
01:12making some history. His thirty
01:14fifth home run of the season.
01:16His seventy-fifth of his Florida
01:18career. A new program record
01:20for UF baseball. He is going
01:22to hear his name called early
01:24would be my suspicion next
01:26month at the Major League Baseball
01:28draft. But tough then for Florida
01:30to have to turn it around and
01:32play in the nightcap yesterday
01:34in Omaha as well. They could have
01:36saved a couple of those fifteen
01:38runs because they were blanked
01:40by Texas A&M. And it
01:42is the advantage Donny of
01:44just going your way through the winner's
01:46bracket because Florida and
01:48Florida State, the two teams that
01:50had already suffered one loss
01:52in Omaha at the CWS
01:54had to knock off for Florida
01:56Texas A&M twice to get to the
01:58CWS finals. Back to back
02:00days. Same story for
02:02FSU. Neither even able to register
02:04a single victory to
02:06force a winner take all game
02:08on this Thursday. The Aggies
02:10have been perfect throughout
02:12this postseason in the NCAA
02:14tournament. Eight games. Eight wins.
02:16Six nothing. Blanking
02:18the Gators in the nightcap to advance
02:20their first ever appearance in the
02:22CWS championship series.
02:24Tennessee the number one national
02:26seed making quick work of Florida State
02:2872 the victory for the Vols.
02:30We're taking a look at
02:32just what happened yesterday and how it sets up for
02:34the World Series itself. It is kind of interesting
02:36where it's like, okay, we are going to make one team
02:38play a double header. And I would say
02:40that because you put yourself in some of those
02:42situations that the rain out is just bad
02:44luck at that point. But if you didn't lose
02:46any games, you wouldn't have to worry about that at
02:48the same time. But also the momentum
02:50was just crazy yesterday. Like Florida and Kentucky.
02:52Both of those teams, two SEC teams.
02:54You win 15 to 4. You think like, okay
02:56game number two is coming up. The bats are hot. We got
02:5814 hits. Multiple home runs.
03:00Then A&M comes up and goes, okay, that's fine.
03:02We'll blank you six to nothing. Like you go
03:04from 15 runs to zero runs.
03:06It was also a testament of how good that
03:08pitching staff yesterday was for Texas
03:10A&M. But I do want to focus on Tennessee
03:12because it's something that we brought up earlier
03:14this week on the shows. I asked you the same
03:16question, like, you know, what's going to happen when
03:18Tennessee plays on the weekend, then sits out because
03:20they're so good and doesn't play until Wednesday.
03:22They were phenomenal again yesterday in that 7-2
03:24victory against Florida State. And also
03:26sometimes you take a look at some of these statistics
03:28which are always going to be good for these teams
03:30that make the World Series. But Tennessee,
03:32that 58-12 record, just
03:34knowing that they're the best team in
03:36college baseball in the regular season, now
03:38really showing up here, it just shows
03:40the depth of that team. And Russ doesn't matter.
03:42We're not making any excuses. Tennessee
03:44looks the part right now.
03:46And they have looked the part for the better
03:48part of the last few years. Tony Vitello
03:50has turned this program
03:52into an absolute powerhouse
03:54in Knoxville. But it's almost
03:56a blessing and a curse, Donny, as
03:58we have detailed a few times,
04:00to be college baseball's best team
04:02and to earn that number one
04:04national seed. The seeding format
04:06of the 16 national seeds
04:08hosting the Super, or hosting
04:10the regional round, and those
04:12four teams in your single pod,
04:14if you will, on the opening weekend
04:16of the NCAA baseball tournament
04:18has not been great. The seeding
04:20format started in 1999.
04:22We have only ever seen
04:24one number one national
04:26seed win a national championship.
04:28It was the very first year of this
04:30format, back in 99,
04:32Donny's Miami Hurricanes.
04:34It has been kind of like that
04:36President's Trophy curse in the
04:38Stanley Cup playoffs, here in the
04:40NCAA tournament, and getting
04:42to Omaha, getting to the
04:44CWS championship set,
04:46and ultimately winning that ultimate prize,
04:48a national title. But Tennessee
04:50looks hell-bent on bucking
04:52that trend. Seven to two
04:54yesterday in illustrious offense,
04:56Christian Moore, one of the best bats
04:58in all of college baseball,
05:00the leadoff man often for the
05:02volunteers, and I think you will see
05:04him in game number one on
05:06Saturday night in downtown
05:08Omaha. Chase Burns, who is going
05:10to be a top ten draft pick, would be
05:12my guess, a guy that
05:14goes to triple digits consistently
05:16for Tennessee. Electric
05:18stuff on the bump, but
05:20as we have seen with A&M,
05:22they're pitching staff all postseason
05:24long, and here in Omaha
05:26has been sensational.
05:28The total not out just yet for
05:30Saturday night in game number one
05:32in the best of three CWS
05:34finals, but believe
05:36me, I will be
05:38leaning under, because I think
05:40it will still probably hover around nine
05:42in a hook, ten and a half, and I'm
05:44going to take the honor. Tennessee,
05:46the favorites DRS to win
05:48the national championship this year.
05:50Yeah, and if we're taking a look, and you explained
05:52it there, because I was going to ask you that next question, is it just
05:54a singular national championship game, but
05:56it is a best of three, and as we say,
05:58and then there were two, and that's Tennessee
06:00and Texas A&M, a minus
06:02176 prize to win the
06:04College World Series on the Tennessee
06:06Volunteers, so a prohibited favorite here.
06:08Looking forward to this three-game
06:10set, what is your opinion here? Is there a chance
06:12that the Aggies can stun? I want to say
06:14stun, it's not as if they're getting a plus 350
06:16prize. They're a quality team, two SEC
06:18teams. What can we look forward to in the series?
06:20What's going to stand out?
06:22I think we're going three. I think
06:24we will see all three games with what
06:26would be that championship game on
06:28Monday night next week
06:30in Omaha, that winner-take-all
06:32game number three. Not sure
06:34who wins game one, but I don't think
06:36we're going to see a two-game
06:38sweep. I would give the edge to the Vols
06:40and the Odds, continuously working
06:42in their favor, now minus
06:44176.
06:46It's Tennessee and Texas
06:48A&M, and for a fifth consecutive
06:50year, DRS, because whoever wins
06:52will hail from the SEC,
06:54we will see an SEC national
06:56champion for five
06:58straight seasons
07:00in the men's college
07:02World Series. Oh, by the way,
07:04you asked for the Jell-O shot update
07:06at Rocco's yesterday?
07:08Tennessee has the edge, 12,804
07:10at last night's
07:12update, 11,762
07:14for A&M.
07:16Not the largest gap there
07:18for the early run. I'm next.
