‘Politicians don’t care about us’, say 75% of Gen-Z voters

It comes as four in ten young people said they feel their vote doesn't have the ability to change things.

00:06been found. For campaigners who want to get young people voting they say it's

00:10putting the next generation off political engagements and it shows in

00:13the stats looking at the latest data from 2022 only 60% of 18 and 19 year

00:18olds were registered to vote compared with 96% of 65 and over category. Youth

00:24led non-partisan campaign Give an X reports the top three most important

00:28issues young people believe the country is facing at the moment are health and

00:31the NHS, the economy and housing and house prices. The importance of those

00:35issues reflect the conditions young people currently face with more than

00:39half saying their parents were better off financially and had more

00:42opportunities at their age than they currently do. Another challenge presented

00:46for the next generation when it comes to voting this summer is the new photo ID

00:50rule. Since May last year those hoping to cast their vote need to bring a valid

00:54form of ID. The Electoral Commission found that young people are the least

00:58likely to be aware of the rule change and so it may prove yet another barrier

01:02for the young vote.
