00:00All right, you got to get it deep.
00:02There you go.
00:03You got to have more than that.
00:04That's it. Look out!
00:05There you go.
00:06You're good, though.
00:07You're good.
00:08Hello, this is Katie.
00:09Hey, Katie, this is Shannon Sarge with Gator Country.
00:11I received a call that you have an unwanted friend over there.
00:15Yes, ma'am.
00:16We have a horse facility here, and we
00:18have a gator that is actually in our pasture out here.
00:21We did get the horses out of the actual pasture he was in,
00:24but we don't want the gator to stay.
00:26We need him out of here, please.
00:27OK, awesome.
00:28We'll see you shortly.
00:29OK, thank you.
00:30You're welcome.
00:31Bye-bye.
00:32We here at Stable Spirit, we use horses
00:35to do mental, physical, and emotional health work
00:37with individuals within the community.
00:39I woke up this morning prior to feeding our horses
00:42and noticed they were all antsy outside
00:44and just running around.
00:45And so I knew something was in the pasture.
00:47I came out to find out what was going on and saw this.
00:49I thought it was a log, and it ended up moving.
00:52So it was not a log.
00:53It was an alligator.
00:54Ooh, you do got a good one.
00:56He's on the move.
00:57All right, let's go get the poles out the back of the truck.
01:00All right.
01:01Hey, y'all gonna need to move.
01:02He's walking.
01:03Come on.
01:04Two ropes.
01:05Two ropes.
01:06We like to assess a situation, but there was no time to assess.
01:09It went into, you better know your stuff,
01:11and you better know it right.
01:12This alligator was huge.
01:14We got to catch this alligator now.
01:22The whole training day that was in my mind
01:24changed when I saw that big alligator.
01:26I can guarantee you this.
01:27That animal weighs 350.
01:28Easy.
01:29It did go to a different level.
01:31What are you thinking?
01:32I'm thinking tie off the tail and tie off the head.
01:35That's it.
01:36And then it's safer.
01:37Use these trees to your advantage.
01:38Yeah.
01:39Work through this.
01:40With this big and this powerful animal,
01:41what you want to do is use your resources.
01:43You got the rope.
01:44You've got the training.
01:45You just listen to me and Gary.
01:47You just keep him off of you.
01:48OK.
01:49All right, let's rope him.
01:50All right.
01:51You're OK.
01:52Get ready.
01:53He's planting those feet.
01:54Be watching.
01:55Yeah, you need to watch those feet.
01:56Those feet will tell you everything you need to know.
01:59So when he cocks back, he takes those legs
02:01and he goes back like this.
02:02That means he could jump or he's going to move fast.
02:08All right.
02:09You got to get it deep.
02:10There you go.
02:11You got to have more than that.
02:12Look out.
02:13You're good, though.
02:14You're good.
02:15Go back.
02:16There you go.
02:17All right, now keep him off of you.
02:18All right.
02:19Watch his tail.
02:20I want you to take that rope and go around that tree.
02:21Help her pull.
02:23Pull.
02:24There you go.
02:25A little bit more.
02:26OK, stop.
02:27Tie it around that one side of that tree right here.
02:28Tie it on the back side just like that.
02:30That's good.
02:31Now, what we're doing here, we're
02:32trying to immobilize this animal.
02:33You see how powerful that is.
02:34Oh, yeah.
02:35We got to stop that so we can tape him up.
02:37We're going to get this as far up on the tail as we can.
02:40OK.
02:46You're going to have to go quite a ways for this to work.
02:49A little bit more.
02:50Watch your ankles.
02:51Watch.
02:53There you go.
02:54Let's try it again.
02:55I was really concerned about her not
02:57paying attention to the tail.
02:58As I'm watching that, my stress level is really up here.
03:01You don't have to go with about a foot and a half.
03:03He's going to be able to swing.
03:04He is.
03:06OK, lock it down.
03:08Zip it.
03:09OK, now bring it this way to this tree right here.
03:12Pull.
03:15There you go.
03:16Stretch him out.
03:18There you go.
03:19You're not hurting that animal at all.
03:21You see how wide his mouth is open?
03:23If you get in there, that's 3,000 pounds per square inch.
03:26It don't have to be open like this that much.
03:28I'm going to take this rope.
03:30I'm going to put it over the top jaw.
03:32I'm going to cinch this very easily down to where
03:35he cannot open his mouth.
03:37See how his mouth is closing?
03:38Mm-hmm.
03:39The more pressure I put on there?
03:40Yep.
03:41After Shannon had talked to me, I felt very confident.
03:44All right, you're good.
03:45Get that two rolls around there pretty fast.
03:49You're so feisty.
03:50I know.
03:51You got it?
03:52Yeah.
03:53Outstanding.
03:54That's the way to do that.
03:55Grace listened really closely.
03:56Like, she was, like, on top of it.
03:58All right, we'll get him taped up the rest of the way.
04:00There you go.
04:01So what you're going to do is you're going to pull his leg
04:04back as far as you can.
04:06He's mad.
04:07He is.
04:08The safety of the alligator and the safety of the people
04:10are the most important thing right now.
04:14And stretch his tail out, too, a little bit.
04:16We are looking at 9 foot 10 inches.
04:20Woo!
04:21A lot bigger than I thought it was going to be, that's for sure.
04:23Your first one was a big boy.
04:25Yeah.
