00:00A cryogenized human brain works perfectly after being defrosted 18 months later.
00:04But then what does that mean?
00:05Cryogenics programs have existed since the 60s,
00:07where people have immersed their bodies in liquid nitrogen
00:10in the hope of waking up to a future date when medical technology has progressed.
00:14But it is for them a wrong solution.
00:15Indeed, the bodies of cryogenized people began to deteriorate,
00:18being the result of poor conservation and intolerance of human bodies to be frozen.
00:22So there is very little chance that these people can be awakened one day.
00:25However, there could be a new way to revive frozen brains without damaging them.
00:29Many animals can survive a complete freezing and wake up later thanks to natural bioprotectors.
00:34Inspired by this, Chinese researchers have succeeded in developing more effective cryoprotectors for humans
00:39by using brain organoids.
00:40Brain organoids are miniature models of human brains cultivated in laboratories
00:44in order to advance neurological research.
00:46These researchers used the MEDI cryoprotective solution,
00:49named after the four main ingredients,
00:50methylcellulose, ethylene glycol, DMSO and Y27632.
00:54They immersed the organoids in this solution before cryogenizing them.
00:57Once defrozen, they did not show any visible damage even after a long interval.
