00:00:00And we are back with another episode of how about them Celtics seminar here recording
00:00:14on Wednesday, June 12th, just before game three of the NBA finals.
00:00:18You guys are listening to this after.
00:00:19So obviously we're going to talk about game three of the NBA finals.
00:00:21You'll see if we're happy or sad in like a couple minutes here.
00:00:23But how are you doing today?
00:00:24Sam?
00:00:25How are we?
00:00:26How are we doing?
00:00:27We pumped up.
00:00:28Doing pretty good.
00:00:29Doesn't sound pumped up.
00:00:30I came in with the energy and it was just pretty pumped up.
00:00:34You know, Chris stops is a torn attendant in his foot that we don't know.
00:00:38We all thought was a nothing injury and then shams taught us a whole new medical term yesterday
00:00:44on Twitter.
00:00:45So we had to go and look at it.
00:00:46It was actually you.
00:00:47You were first.
00:00:48I know.
00:00:49They sent us a PR email and it was just a super long winded.
00:00:52I mean, you guys saw the yeah, let me try.
00:00:57I'm sorry.
00:00:58Torn medial torn medial retinaculum allowing dislocation of posterior tibialis tendon in
00:01:06his left leg.
00:01:07A lot of stuff.
00:01:08But Joe said it was a serious injury.
00:01:10Chris stops thinks he's going to play by the time you're listening to this.
00:01:12You'll know if we'll play and we'll talk more about it during the recap of the game.
00:01:15So we won't go too in depth here.
00:01:16But we did.
00:01:17We think he's going to play.
00:01:19We think he'll get to play.
00:01:20So we could look stupid or like geniuses.
00:01:22I hope it would be a little funny if we look stupid.
00:01:24But it's only funny if they win.
00:01:27Yeah.
00:01:28Other than that.
00:01:29But up to anything.
00:01:30Any you know, before we get into the game, we have too much into the baseball game yesterday.
00:01:36Ran today.
00:01:37Just did work.
00:01:39Did some work work.
00:01:40Did some side work.
00:01:41I haven't shaved.
00:01:42I wanted to shave today.
00:01:43I never have time to shave.
00:01:44I want to shave.
00:01:45I see.
00:01:46It's tough.
00:01:47I've been in Dallas two flights to get here.
00:01:50Wasn't too bad.
00:01:51R.J. roasted me on Twitter saying I should have set up a heart monitor for the flight.
00:01:54I think I've gotten over it for the most part.
00:01:56I think I'm OK.
00:01:58Past couple of times because I've flown.
00:01:59I mean, I've flown more in the past six months than or eight months and a half in the past
00:02:03like five years.
00:02:06Other than that, I've been doing some like actual reporting for Celtics blog, which is
00:02:09weird.
00:02:10I talked to Tillman about Steve McIloo playing Luka Donchik in practice, talked to a bunch
00:02:13of players yesterday about what they do on the plane, stuff like that.
00:02:15Like a fun story.
00:02:16A plane one.
00:02:17Cool.
00:02:18Thank you.
00:02:19Thank you.
00:02:20I like to talk to the players and stuff because you can kind of just pull them aside.
00:02:22I talked to Luke for a little while.
00:02:23He's hilarious.
00:02:24I talked to Tillman and Sprenger, Drew Peterson, like all the guys, like it's just fun to like
00:02:28talk to them.
00:02:29As they win today.
00:02:30Yeah.
00:02:31You got to like as like the vibes are really good, like around like the open practices
00:02:35just come on the pot.
00:02:39Maybe.
00:02:40Maybe we'll see.
00:02:41I might have some other ideas that I'm going to ask tomorrow, depending on the vibes.
00:02:44But anyways, let's let's go over to a recap of Celtics Mavs finals game three, because
00:02:49that's what y'all are waiting for.
00:02:53All right.
00:02:54Seminar here after game three of the NBA final Celtics win in weird fashion.
00:02:59It was a weird game.
00:03:00The whole game, even the first half was weird.
00:03:02Played weird.
00:03:03Celtics went up.
00:03:04Twenty one blew the lead, held on, re-extended after Luka fouled out, man, three oh in the
00:03:10NBA final.
00:03:11Sam, at the end of the day, we're going to talk about it all, obviously, but the Celtics
00:03:14are up three oh in the NBA finals.
00:03:15It's an excellent day.
00:03:16It's a great day.
00:03:17It's almost a very bad day.
00:03:24Almost dive off your deck kind of day, but it's not.
00:03:27It's not.
00:03:28They held on.
00:03:29What did you read about earlier?
00:03:31Ben don't break.
00:03:32Yeah.
00:03:33Ben don't break.
00:03:34Clap back Celtics.
00:03:38The Celtics are actually one of those rulers.
00:03:41Remember the rulers you had when you were a kid that you can just fucking roll up into
00:03:45a ball or fold them directly in half.
00:03:49That's that's the Celtics.
00:03:52This was really an impressive showing on a couple of different fronts.
00:03:57First and foremost, big Tatum start in this game.
00:04:00Big head out of his ass moment.
00:04:02Great first quarter, first half.
00:04:03I think he had 18 and he really meant business right from the get go.
00:04:09And he set the tone for a meaningful performance to finish with 31 points, six rebounds and
00:04:14five assists.
00:04:16And he just kind of led from the beginning this I'm going to have to pull it up and look
00:04:21at the second half because I am a little curious, not quite up to the same standard as the first
00:04:26half was.
00:04:27But still, he played a really impressive first half and Tatum got things going for the team
00:04:31when nobody had anything going, Jalen Tatum Tatum's first half.
00:04:37Yes.
00:04:38No.
00:04:39Tatum's first half was awesome.
00:04:40He was made his threes.
00:04:41He made his threes.
00:04:43He was three of eight from three in the first half from that point on.
00:04:49Not good.
00:04:50Um, I know you mentioned on the broadcast, he said, uh, don't take setback threes.
00:04:55He did it.
00:04:56Nobody has a clip.
00:04:57Hey, you did leave out the part where he said, myself included, he said, end up my bad in
00:05:02the same.
00:05:03Oh, you found the clip?
00:05:04No.
00:05:05I saw the quote on Twitter, though.
00:05:06I saw the quote on Twitter.
00:05:07I didn't hear that part.
00:05:08I was too busy laughing by that point, probably.
00:05:13He went most of the second half without taking one.
00:05:15He couldn't help himself one time, but he has an addiction, dude.
00:05:21He's like, I was sitting with a friend that loves a parlay.
00:05:27I was sitting with Josh.
00:05:28I think it was Josh Rowe, Mavs, Moneyball, his destination maps.
00:05:32And I look at him.
00:05:33I go, you can always tell what Jason's going to shoot a three.
00:05:35He just got, I just heard him.
00:05:36I go, this is a three.
00:05:37And he just starts laughing.
00:05:38Step back.
00:05:40That first between the legs dribble is not something you like to see.
00:05:47If you see a big on Tatum with the lane and he goes between the legs, three buckets between
00:05:53the legs is a death sentence.
00:05:56All jokes aside, Tatum had a great first half.
00:06:00He wasn't as good in the second half, but he still made his plays.
00:06:02Jalen Brown turned up in the second half.
00:06:04I thought Jalen Brown had a phenomenal game in this one.
00:06:05He dished out the assist.
00:06:06He got some big buckets late.
00:06:10I'm not going to barely save your Tillman, man.
00:06:12Who would have thought we'd be talking about it?
00:06:16Tell me that's not the story of the game, though.
00:06:18Tell me that's not the story of the game or at least one of them in the story of the game.
00:06:22If they didn't make me want to kill myself for five, I still think it's up there.
00:06:26But even the blown lead, I mean, they want to.
00:06:28Yeah.
00:06:29What are you going to say about the balloon?
00:06:30Like they held on and won.
00:06:31Like, yes, it sucked.
00:06:32The offense went to shit.
00:06:33How much are you going to put emphasis into that when they still won the game and are
00:06:37up there in the finals?
00:06:38Like, Chris, I was saying this, all of us, at least I did.
00:06:40I thought he's going to play this game.
00:06:41I thought it and he didn't play.
00:06:44You were almost right at the start.
00:06:46You didn't think he was going to play that.
00:06:47I think I convinced you.
00:06:48But and we're going to look like idiots like four minutes ago when we said we think he's
00:06:51going to play.
00:06:52But he didn't play.
00:06:54Celtics are getting killed in the first quarter.
00:06:56Like Luka and Kyra getting whatever they want.
00:06:57They're blowing by the Celtics on the perimeter.
00:06:59They're going nuts.
00:07:00True.
00:07:01Yeah.
00:07:02True.

00:10:25Yeah.
00:10:26Yeah.
00:10:27Have you ever wanted to not play defense, Sam?
00:10:29Have you ever sat there in your chair and said, you know what?
00:10:32I just don't want to do anything today.
00:10:35I do feel that way all the time.
00:10:37May I present you the Luka water?
00:10:39Is that actually his water?
00:10:41For the first time-
00:10:42For the first time in your life, you could not play.
00:10:44Are you gonna keep that?
00:10:45I don't know.
00:10:47Why I keep it?
00:10:48I don't know.
00:10:49Why would you keep that?
00:10:50That's his water from an NBA finals game.
00:10:52Do you sell it?
00:10:53I don't know.
00:10:55keep it. It's like a trophy, especially in this series. The
00:10:59problem is you won't be able to fly that back. You'd have to
00:11:01check it. I know I can empty it. I don't need the water. You
00:11:06need the water. You gotta have the water. Is that Bobby? Yeah.
00:11:14Ask Bobby if you bring it home if you would keep that Bobby
00:11:17Sam wants to know if I should if I should keep it. He said
00:11:21you have to you do you have to keep that. No. It's like when
00:11:25we had Steve Pet on and he said he has like McHale's armband
00:11:28from one of the finals in the 80s. Yeah. No, I just know I
00:11:32showed Noah the water. She looks at me. She goes take it.
00:11:35Yes. You're you would not be crazy for that. That's like
00:11:40something you would tell your kids about someday be like hey
00:11:43see that fat slob over there. He actually wasn't drinking
00:11:45like sugar Gatorade during the finals. He did drink water.
00:11:49Well, he didn't drink much of it unless he didn't drink much
00:11:52unless this was the second bottle. Very true. Yeah, it's
00:11:56probably his like fourth bottle or whatever man Celtics up
00:12:00three and three on the finals up three on the finals Tatum
00:12:06Brown 35 and five like again Tatum's efficiency was great
00:12:10and then it wasn't as good but he he played the right way for
00:12:13most of the game. Well, ironically, it felt like he he
00:12:16was taking stupid shots when he was efficient and then he
00:12:18stopped taking stupid shots and then was inefficient. You know
00:12:20what I'm saying? Yeah, it is funny like he had a very
00:12:25dominant first half like he did a great job of driving,
00:12:28getting to the basket, stepping through traffic, and getting to
00:12:32his layups. He wasn't uncomfortable. Yeah. I kind of
00:12:35don't think he looked like what we talked about later in the
00:12:38show with Hugh where he looks a little bit uncomfortable and
00:12:42indecisive in game two. Tonight, he felt like he was
00:12:44very locked in. He felt like he was determined to get his
00:12:48looks. He wasn't afraid to put the ball up but I'll tell you
00:12:52what. He took a step back three with like two minutes left in
00:12:56this game when the Celtics were trying to seal it. I almost had
00:13:01to go over to the microwave. Jalen took one too. Jalen took a
00:13:05three at the top of the key if I remember correctly. He took a
00:13:07like a heat check like whack like Jalen took some pretty
00:13:10brutal shots in the first half of this game like it's like
00:13:14these two guys. They they have like a like a deal with the
00:13:18devil where they each have to play a putrid half in this
00:13:23game. I saw I forget who tweeted and I feel bad. It was
00:13:30like the Celtics, you know, the difference this year. Last
00:13:33year, the Celtics played three good quarters. Yeah. This year,
00:13:37they play three and a half good quarters. Yeah. That's that's
00:13:40the difference. Man. Oh my god. Sam Houser, by the way, who
00:13:46you crapped on at the start of this game when we do
00:13:48prospects. Very bad. Very bad take. This was I thought they
00:13:53were going to lose today and I thought Houser was cooked. I
00:13:57I didn't think he anything. He probably made three of the
00:14:00biggest shots in this game as the Celtics climbed out of the
00:14:03early hole they built for themselves. Shout out to
00:14:06Houser. He also got some great stops on defense. Happy to be
00:14:10wrong. I mean, I wrote about him before the series cuz he
00:14:12just had the most interesting like response to slumping. It's
00:14:15like I'm just gonna throw on some YouTube highlights of me
00:14:18cooking. He's got a new game. New game to look at. 14 minutes,
00:14:22nine points for him as a plus sixteen team high. Team high.
00:14:27Team high, man. He was awesome. I'm still baffled that we got
00:14:31Xavier Tillman minutes like really really important. That
00:14:35was another thing I was wrong about. Did we talk about we
00:14:38talked about on the pregame cuz we didn't do any Porzingis talk
00:14:41on this podcast. Cornette and I said Tillman. Yeah. Just I'll
00:14:45take it. I'll fade Sam today. I'll tell you what I had one of
00:14:48the most intense insurance bets of all time in this game. Oh
00:14:53yeah. Threw $50 in the account before the game just for the
00:14:56hell of it because I was like I know I'm gonna wanna like cover
00:14:59my **** this one. Prizepix is America's number one fantasy

00:16:17more, pick less. It's that easy. And then at the end of
00:16:22the third quarter, I think I took Dallas at plus 850
00:16:27through all 50 on it. So, I was like set to make $480 of the
00:16:31losses game and I was still like irate. I mean, go through
00:16:35the heart monitor thread on Twitter like I was pissed off
00:16:38tweeting like, I can't believe they're gonna lose this. Like,
00:16:41clearly, I don't really care for the insurance but this had
00:16:44the potential to be one of the great insurance wins of all
00:16:47time and I'm glad it was not. I they went up 21 and I'm sitting
00:16:51next to Josh Rowe of Mav's Moneyball and then on my other
00:16:55side or sorry, Josh Bowe. I said his name wrong. Sorry,
00:16:57Josh. Josh Bowe. Um and then on my other side is Lauren Stow
00:17:02who writes for Fort Worth Star Telegram who I was like, I just
00:17:05talk with him, right? And Lawrence turns to me. I'm like,
00:17:08I'm like, hey, you never know. He goes, nah, this game's over.
00:17:10I said, you don't know the Celtics. You don't know. It's
00:17:14the Riddler meme. He doesn't know. They proceed to blow the
00:17:17whole lead. I turned to him. I go, what I say, he goes, yeah.
00:17:22But man, what? Janos. Hi, at Luca Donchich. Is hard for to
00:17:29be the fat guy and lose so many time. I know I am pant too
00:17:34tight most day but you are NBA guy is sad. You are complaining
00:17:37and fat. Thank you is Janos. Luca has been like unbelievably
00:17:43bad. Like I I'm I'm a little bit baffled cuz I was talking to
00:17:47again Josh who's like watch all the games and everything and I
00:17:50was talking about like the defense. He's like he was good
00:17:52in those first two series but then kind of trailed off in the
00:17:55Timberwolves and then later on and then Lawrence was telling
00:17:57me he's like everyone made this big deal but like he guarded
00:18:00Kawhi and Kawhi was very hurt. Like I don't think this was as
00:18:03good of a defensive performance and he has been like actively
00:18:07hurting them. I saw somebody say like um I forget who
00:18:10commented like when we did the grades and people were like uh
00:18:13last game and I said Tatum had a better game than Luca and I
00:18:15stand on it and people were like that's crazy. Look at a
00:18:18better game. You cannot have a better game than another player
00:18:21who puts up even like close to similar stats if you're that
00:18:25much of a civ on defense. Like it's it's unbelievable man.
00:18:30They're just walking by him and I there's something's gonna
00:18:33come out after the finals. It's like oh he was hurt but I don't
00:18:35care. If you're out there. Tweet is gonna hit. If you're out
00:18:39there, you gotta be able to be in front of guys and he and the
00:18:42for Fort Worth, the Celtics were not playing good defense to
00:18:45start this game. Like they were letting them go by him and the
00:18:48Mavs hit a couple tough shots like Kyrie hit some big threes
00:18:50like Luca hit a three whatever whatever but like they were
00:18:52just getting by him like and you really miss the KP interior
00:18:56presence and you could tell the Celtics had to adjust to
00:18:58playing without him behind them and they did. They did. Shout
00:19:03out to Drew. It's like that. I know. Joe Mazzola is Batman but
00:19:07he's actually Alfred cuz he's not out there playing but he's
00:19:10essentially the mind of Batman. Uh back to Luca. He's one of
00:19:16the most fun guys to just hate. He really is. I mean, he just
00:19:21makes it so easy. The complaining. Did you see what
00:19:23he did to Hauser? No. Earlier in the game, he like got a
00:19:27bucket on Hauser. He like dribble dribble step back over
00:19:29him and then he as he's running back, you can see it in the
00:19:32Dremberton. He sort of laughs, looks at the Celtic expansion,
00:19:34points to Hauser like like this is the guy you're putting on me
00:19:37and he just didn't score.
00:19:41I tweeted it. Uh I tweeted it. Literally, no, everyone tweeted
00:19:45that. I I'm insulted. He put a white guy on me thing and he
00:19:47goes, see, he's, you're not him, bro. Like, you're not this
00:19:50guy. No, but seriously, like, he is unbelievably bad and I do
00:19:55think he is playing hard for what it's worth. The chest
00:19:58thing, if he's getting numbing injections to his chest can't
00:20:01be great and it can't make it easy for him to breathe but it
00:20:06just doesn't help that he looks extremely out of shape and
00:20:09clearly is taking possessions off on defense. Yeah. Like, the
00:20:12Jalen, I think the Jalen Dunk at the end of the third, he was
00:20:17part of that. Ahman, hello. Sam says hello. The vlogs are so
00:20:24good, man. I am so, I'm so excited that I get to be part
00:20:27of the vlogs and it's even better now that I got to watch
00:20:30Luca follow the Celtics. Did you see yourself in the vlog
00:20:32the other night? I did. I watched it. I was like, did I
00:20:35make it? Did I make the cut? Yeah, I did. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:20:38But yeah, watching them beat up on Luca is just so fun because
00:20:41we heard all of this stuff about Luca before the playoff
00:20:45series and you mentioned that those guys on the Mavs beat
00:20:47were talking to you and they're like, not all that impressed
00:20:51with it and it just comes back to like the same, it's the same
00:20:55equation that the Celtics get but the inverse. The Celtics
00:20:59are so good and consistent that when something goes wrong, it's
00:21:02a big story. When Luca's so consistently puking on defense,
00:21:06it's a big story if he tries. Yeah. Now, I got a question for
00:21:11you and we'll talk about other stuff after this too but you
00:21:15mentioned before like, does KP play in the series? You're
00:21:17talking about a pregame. Oh, he ain't playing. Now, I wonder.
00:21:22We might have had the same thought. Continue. If they make
00:21:25him available. Yeah and they just put him in. Just to trot
00:21:28him out there if they win the game. He gets to dribble at the
00:21:31clock. Yes, yes, yes. So, he gets to play in the in the
00:21:34clean clenching whatever. I did have that thought. I did. I
00:21:39also had the thought. I was like, well, what if I bought
00:21:41tickets to this game because I was watching the garden report
00:21:44and they were like, take a price to really dropping and I
00:21:48was like, I'm going to fly out. It's kind of my mom's job. It's
00:21:53not impossible for me to fly out there but as I take my dad
00:21:59for fun, I was like, if they lose, no. Yeah. Go all the way
00:22:03to lose. No. Maybe but if they do lose, then they come back to
00:22:06the garden and then. That, oh, I wouldn't go for that. Let's
00:22:12go on good old game time right now and I'll let you chat about
00:22:16whatever you'd like to chat about but I'm very curious to
00:22:19see what the entry price is to game five at TD Garden. Man,
00:22:24I'm going to guess on Gabe. Respect Gabe. He's good
00:22:28dealing. I appreciate you very much. God, I'll say $1100 to
00:22:36get in. What are we thinking? Like, I was going to go like
00:22:41950 but I think if it's a game. Get in price is 1264.
00:22:47Yeah. Not cheap. Damn, damn, damn. Rui was at the watch
00:22:53party. Did you see Rui on Twitter? Tee Garden was louder
00:22:56than American Airlines Center tonight. Did you see him in the
00:22:58um the 360 camera spin? No. That was sick. I have to watch.
00:23:04You gotta go look at it. Oh my god. The South Shore up three
00:23:06on the final sim. This is a great day. I mean. They've won
00:23:10ten games in a row. When when we talk about the playoffs all
00:23:15season. This is what I would like to see. This this is what
00:23:20I've been asking for is just I mean listen they almost kill me
00:23:23today but don't make me sweat when it comes to the series
00:23:26alright? Like you can **** with me from game to game if you
00:23:29want to. But but don't let it come to oh if they lose today
00:23:33they're done. You know? Like we just haven't had to put up
00:23:37with that this season. It's been a fantastic watch. I
00:23:39thought they were dead after game two against the heat. I
00:23:42can't lie to you but knock on wood. Also, great for travel.
00:23:46No game sixes so far. Yeah. It's been nice. Oh my god, man.
00:23:52Great opportunity for you guys to go out there and not get
00:23:55murdered on those fees, right? You're getting all the
00:23:58availability of the players. Knock on wood again but Derek
00:24:02White big shots in this game. Uh. Always. As always. He
00:24:05always. He always makes those. If you see it going up in the
00:24:07fourth quarter or five minutes or less, you know what's going
00:24:09in. It's incredible. And it's funny like the rest of the
00:24:13game. I was like, there was a point in this game where I
00:24:15thought to myself, I'm like, is Derek White still in the, I
00:24:17think it's going in every time he shoots a club. And Derek
00:24:21White has been, I don't want to say bad since the heat series
00:24:23but he's been less than ideal because the. Right. He's
00:24:27targeting on defense and he's the shots going in. What's
00:24:29gonna get lost on that Derek White shot? Drew Holliday made
00:24:31a **** sick play to get him that ball. I I wanna pull it
00:24:36up. That's gonna be one of my three things tonight at this
00:24:37game. I think I forgot to do. I know it's just been a million
00:24:40years since games. Um. Hold up. I wanna pull it up. That that
00:24:43was I don't wanna call it the play of the game. But it was
00:24:47like they were reeling. They really needed a three in that
00:24:50moment. Like they they were only up three with less than
00:24:53three minutes left and I I know it got to have the two at one
00:24:55point but like this was at a time where the Celtics were
00:24:58taking isolation shot, isolation shot, isolation shot.
00:25:00Drew Holliday himself took a really horrendous shot in this
00:25:04game too. A step back three on the wing like head and hands
00:25:06and what are we doing and then three minutes left. Drew
00:25:09Holliday pulls this off. Drew Holliday. Drives on Tim. On the
00:25:14drive. Kicks it back. Get out. Over and back. It's up a three.
00:25:17Bang. You know what pass? This reminds me of Jack. Can you
00:25:20guess? Which one? Is it? I'll give you a second to think
00:25:24about it. No, no, no. Oh. This reminds me of most random pull
00:25:31of all time. And you're gonna, yeah. I think it was 2015. Oh,
00:25:37yeah. Isaiah hits Crowder with a behind the head pass to the
00:25:41corner. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's the same pass. It's
00:25:43just at a different spot on the floor. Drew Holliday rocks man.
00:25:47I tweeted out today. You see him beads tweet? Yeah, I did.
00:25:52Bucks gave him a title. The Bucks subreddit might have to
00:25:56be its own video. Chat, let us know if you wanna see the Bucks
00:25:59sub subreddit video. Mav subreddit had some good stuff in
00:26:02there tonight too. Wow. We won't do any of that now
00:26:05though. We'll save it. I wanna I wanna look at all the reddits.
00:26:08I wanna look at the Heat subreddit too. Heat Twitter's
00:26:11going berserk. I know you. I know. Reposted something that
00:26:13was like just the sheer the sheer crying is unbelievable.
00:26:19I've got AA fun article that I might get. I'm gonna hopefully
00:26:22get out of practice tomorrow too. It's not like any like
00:26:25reflective anything. It's just like a funny thing that I'm
00:26:27working on. So, the vibes are high. Kendrick Perkins, the
00:26:29Celtics are set to have one of the greatest championship runs
00:26:33in NBA history. He's getting murdered online. Yeah, cuz
00:26:36you're, come on, man. You gotta know your, know, know your
00:26:39audience, know what you've done. Like, come on. He's he's in
00:26:43the villain article. Deservedly. He deserves it,
00:26:47yeah. We, I feel like we owe the people some more time on
00:26:51this game. We've just been like too happy to actually like
00:26:53talk about what happened. What? Like in the game. Like, we we
00:26:58had like a little bit of analysis but I think we've just
00:27:01been like gloating. Which is fine. I think that's what
00:27:03people come out for in a day like today anyway. Yeah, let's
00:27:05do, let's do 60 seconds of analysis right here. Okay.
00:27:08Get back to it. Yeah. Blowing the twenty-point lead was dog
00:27:10**** Offense. It was. Look, offense look like crap. They
00:27:13just took bad shot after bad shot after bad shot. Saved by
00:27:15that drew kick to the the three. Um defense was terrible
00:27:20in the first few minutes. Uh switching defense look great
00:27:23without KP. They really pulled that around. Uh I've got 10
00:27:26seconds of mine left and I'll give you the latter 30 seconds.
00:27:28Um I don't know if KP will play next game. Shout out Joe
00:27:32Missoula. Coach in a great series. Called that early time
00:27:33out. He he's really getting into it. Uh Derek White praised
00:27:36Joe Missoula as being a genius. So, go ahead. 30 seconds. Um
00:27:40thought Horford played really great defense tonight. He had
00:27:43that really, really tough possession on Kyrie. Yeah. When
00:27:46Dallas was down four in the closing minutes and he just got
00:27:49a great close out on his three and it hits the front of the
00:27:53rim. Who doesn't love to see Kyrie? Yes. Um big shout out to
00:27:56Tatum showing up, setting the tone in this game. I mean, we
00:27:59talked about it already but he was at the forefront of all the
00:28:02criticism and then Jalen, eight assists, three turnovers, big
00:28:06boy distribution game from Jalen. Who doesn't love him?
00:28:10One. End of analysis segment. Sam, the Celtics are up three
00:28:14oh in the Kyrie. This is wild, man. Lucky. This is crazy.
00:28:21Will, will Kyrie celebrate Father's Day with Lucky on
00:28:23Sunday? Perhaps. Listen, there's like Jalen said, job's
00:28:27not done. Nobody made fun of him for the Kobe thing. If
00:28:29Tatum said that, killed. Um. Tatum. Man. Just can't stop
00:28:33wearing that Kobe warm-up shirt. Just. Everyone wears it.
00:28:37Anyways, ten wins in a row. Fifteen and two in the playoffs
00:28:40now. Yeah. If they win on, what day is it? If they win on
00:28:45Friday. An eighty and twenty season, Sam. This is, this is
00:28:53why we play. Like, everyone's gonna say, oh, easy path to
00:28:58finals, blah, blah, blah, whatever. I don't care. They've
00:29:00lost. Yeah, it is an easy pass but it's like, it's crazy how
00:29:05much time we spent on those two losses. Like, how much like
00:29:07panic, how much and it was only cuz they were early in the
00:29:09series cuz it was like one one. We're like, oh **** oh ****
00:29:13Dude, they man. Man. Anyways. Um. NBC Sports Boston had the
00:29:22Luka post game. I don't know if you saw Max Letterman do a
00:29:26number on Luka. Next to Luka's name. Yes. More career finals,
00:29:31wins. Yeah. He's just so easy to like, like dislike. He's so,
00:29:38he's so unlikable. We thought they were gonna let him stay in
00:29:41because like the finals and. Oh. You say he pushed off a
00:29:44little but. I'm glad you brought this up cuz I meant to
00:29:47bring it up earlier and then I kinda got sidetracked. Yeah.
00:29:49When the Luka review was happening, I was torn whether or
00:29:53not I actually wanted him to come out of the game. Cuz he was
00:29:56a civ on defense. I said the same. Cuz he's so bad on
00:29:59defense. I was like, is this even good for the Celtics? Like
00:30:02they can't buy a basket right now. Do they really need to
00:30:04risk not having that free guy to attack every possession? It
00:30:07turns out having Tim Hardaway Jr. Game time makes getting NBA
00:30:11finals tickets even faster and easier. Prices on the game time
00:30:15app actually go down the closer it gets to the tip off. Like

00:31:53way is public enemy number one for Mavs Reddit. Yes. Spoiler.
00:31:56Him and him and Kleber. Him and Kleber getting killed. Uh
00:32:01Kleber might still be hurt. Probably. Definitely. He
00:32:04looks. He doesn't wanna shoot the ball. I know he said it.
00:32:07Jalen, two big shots down the stretch, man. He he had an
00:32:11incredible second half. Need that. Need that. Need that. He
00:32:13said that's enough of that and he just took over the game.
00:32:16Remember when our like we did a whole pod on like how terrible
00:32:19the Celtics are in the third quarter. You know who loves
00:32:23that? You know who loves that? Um like point or point of
00:32:28emphasis, stat, whatever you wanna call it. Yeah. Hmm.
00:32:30Nobody loves that more than my mom. Yeah. How they're good in
00:32:33the third quarter. Third quarter. They're good now.
00:32:36They've been unbelievable in third quarters. Just they play
00:32:39bad. Oh, did she say, she says she thinks they're bad. Yeah,
00:32:43she loves it. Well, that was the twenty-two finals and not
00:32:46this year. Different, different. I thought I did
00:32:49have some PTSD to twenty-twenty-two finals today
00:32:51when I did too. I thought I was like II think I texted some
00:32:55group chat a minute and I was like, is this gonna be the
00:32:58second time in three years that they have the trophy in their
00:33:01hands and then let go of it? Doesn't look like it. We'll see.
00:33:08Man. One win, Sam. Did you see no con? No. Did you look hard?
00:33:19From where I was sitting, he was sitting behind the basket
00:33:21like I couldn't see him. I was just Taylor. Taylor Snow texted
00:33:29me. He he goes, did you see who's here? And I go, yes, I
00:33:32love you so much. Man. One win. I wonder if we'll get a day off
00:33:39in Rhode Island like everybody cuz I'm Zula. That'd be nice.
00:33:43Doesn't, what do you mean day off? Do people get a day off?
00:33:46Like, I don't know. I'm really joking but it would be funny if
00:33:49the state was like, nobody has to work cuz Joe Mazzola. Shout
00:33:54out Joe Mazzola, man. He's been, he's been so sick. You
00:33:59know what I'm looking forward to? Joe's smiling in a press
00:34:02conference. Yes. After they win. Is that what you're saying? No,
00:34:04I wanna see him at the parade. I wonder if Joe will turn into
00:34:08Mike Malone from Michael Malone from last year. Oh, man.
00:34:15No, dude. This is so sick. Just being here. Like, anyways,
00:34:22um any final thoughts before we we get on out of here? I feel
00:34:26like there's something else I was gonna say but I don't
00:34:29remember and so I think I think that's it. What? Somebody just
00:34:36posted a picture of the um the podium after the game with an
00:34:40empty seat. This person I follow just goes Luca Luca's
00:34:44defense is up at the podium. Turp was on TV. Turp was on TV?
00:34:49Not really but he so they left like the the stream going for
00:34:53what they used to like watch and he went up to record and so
00:34:55we just got this picture of him technically on TV. Funny story
00:34:59about that. So, back when I was at the news station, our
00:35:04cameras would kinda work in the same way where they'd always be
00:35:08on and if you went to record something, I believe there was
00:35:12a continuous live stream to the internet like there was an
00:35:15there's a section of the news website where you can catch
00:35:17streams of the newscasts. So, when I was learning how to do
00:35:21television, my buddy Matt, Matt the Rat would fill in at the
00:35:25anchor desk and and toss over to me and he was furious when
00:35:31he found out people could watch him live while he was doing
00:35:34that. It was a whole thing. He they told him and he was still
00:35:38on the camera. He goes, what? Give me, give me the **** off
00:35:42this thing and he's like realizing he's. Oh, Matt, Matt,
00:35:45Matt, Matt. Yeah. As soon as you did the one, I knew what it
00:35:47was. I didn't realize you could do this thing in Apple where
00:35:49you can crop people out and so I just cropped.
00:35:55That's why I do love everybody online being like this is the
00:35:58worst finals ever. I tweeted the thing. I was like, actually
00:36:01this is my favorite finals of all time. Dude, this is my
00:36:03favorite one. You know what? The the the craziest part is
00:36:05like everyone picked the Mavs in the series. Like all of ESPN
00:36:08like over half of ESPN picked the Mavs. The Mavs were favored
00:36:11tonight. I saw a tweet tonight. Not the worst point in the
00:36:16world. ESPN has this sports book now that you ESPN bet. Yes.
00:36:21And like they're like it's pretty shameless that they just
00:36:24push this Mavs team on everybody endlessly for 10 days
00:36:28before the finals and then they're promoting the gambling
00:36:30app and they're like hey everybody bet on the Mavs
00:36:33because nobody's talking about them and they essentially like
00:36:37baited people into losing money. Yeah. It is it is
00:36:41malpractice that people pick the Mavs in the series. I've
00:36:44said it so many times. I picked Mavs in five. I picked Mavs in
00:36:48five, right? Like I said that and and everyone was like that
00:36:51that was a hot take. They're up three oh. Dude, like this. You
00:36:54mean Southeast in five? The gap. Yeah, sorry. Southeast five.
00:36:58The gap in talent between these two teams is **** insane. The
00:37:02Pacers played the Celtics better than this. Infinitely
00:37:05better. Like so much better. Like the Cavs played the
00:37:09Celtics better than this. This Mavs team sucks. No, the Pacers
00:37:13were a real pain in the **** Like Pacers, the Pacers should
00:37:17actually get the Western Conference Champions Trophy
00:37:20from Dallas. Genuinely, how did this Mavs team get out of the
00:37:23West? The West was so hard. It's it's and and all the same
00:37:32people who pick the Mavs in the series, you'd be like, easy
00:37:34road for the Celtics, whatever. Like, you pick the Mavs. So,
00:37:36clearly, it wasn't that easy. Like, the Mavs circle jerk was
00:37:39unbelievable and the Luca and the Kyrie. Oh, he's so much
00:37:43more. He was good in this game. He's so much more mature now
00:37:46and you know, he's really a leader for this Mavericks team
00:37:50and then he has the two awful games in Boston. By the way,
00:37:54Kevin Love did part of my take today and they talked about
00:37:57Kyrie and he was like, yeah, that guy definitely **** hates
00:37:59Boston. Like, there's no secret. Yeah, sure. Of course
00:38:02he does. Obviously, he does. Always gonna and nothing wrong
00:38:06with owning it. Who cares? Yeah, who cares? Let him do
00:38:08whatever. Anyways, shall we get out of here and throw it to the
00:38:11rest of the show? Uh Celtics up three on the finals. Wow.
00:38:15Alright, we'll we'll see you guys for the rest of the pop.
00:38:19Alright, welcome back. We're here. Back to talk some other
00:38:22Celtics stuff. Hopefully, that was a fun recap and not a bad
00:38:25one but Derek White, contract extension. We're getting right
00:38:28into it. We're ready to rock here. We're not gonna waste any
00:38:31breath. Not gonna waste y'all's time. Uh this was the uh Mark
00:38:34Stein of the Stein line. Uh longtime NBA insider. It's
00:38:38always weird to like say Mark Stein of the Stein line cuz
00:38:40it's just it's just his name. Um he reported that Derek White
00:38:45is going to work or going to look for a contract extension
00:38:48from the Celtics this summer. I believe, I don't know if you
00:38:50wrote this in your article or if it was in the article uh
00:38:53that Mark Stein wrote but I believe the max he can get is
00:38:56just over 30 mil a season or 30 mil around their average annual
00:38:59value um which sounds about right for a player like Derek
00:39:02White on the open market. So, hopefully, he would rather stay
00:39:06in Boston than test free agency but it does sound like
00:39:08they're gonna work on an extension this summer. Yeah, I
00:39:11don't think anybody was doubting this but at the same
00:39:14time, there was a weird, is he gonna go look for more money?
00:39:18He's gotten so much buzz around him this season about his
00:39:21impact. There was the all-star thing before the selections
00:39:24happened and Derek White has become a household name over
00:39:29the course of this season. So, to speculate that he may go out
00:39:32there and test the waters and see if he's gonna get a big
00:39:35time payday says a lot about his actual decision not to do
00:39:41so cuz it feels like he could have went out there and maybe
00:39:43gotten paid a lot of money especially by these teams like
00:39:46you saw what Houston did last year. They paid Fred Van
00:39:49Vliet a bunch of money over two seasons. They paid Dylan
00:39:52Brooks more money than anybody thought Dylan Brooks would get
00:39:54cuz they just had Capspace. Capspace now works different
00:39:57than Capspace did 10 years ago where there's not a ton of
00:40:01names out there. So, Derek White could have very well
00:40:04cashed in on a big day but instead he chooses or is
00:40:07reportedly hoping to choose to stay with the Celtics. Sign an
00:40:11extension here and by signing an extension here for whatever
00:40:14the price tag will be, not as much as you can get as a free
00:40:17agent. It kinda solidifies his desire to be in the city as a
00:40:21member of the team. Like, that's not, oh, I'm gonna sign
00:40:25and get my money now and then request a trade type of like
00:40:28stuff. You know what I mean? No, I don't think that. That
00:40:31doesn't that doesn't sound like. I mean, it's off for him
00:40:33though. For him. Yeah, yeah. That doesn't sound like Derek
00:40:35White. Um would be great to see him back in action in Boston
00:40:39obviously like if they extend Jason Tatum and Derek White
00:40:41this summer that is a perfect offseason. They don't need to
00:40:44do anything else. They could do nothing else. They could just
00:40:46run back the same exact team as long as those two guys are on
00:40:48the books. Moving forward, that'd be a win for Boston. Um
00:40:51as things stand, Drew Holliday is under contract through the
00:40:55twenty-seven, twenty-eight season with the player option
00:40:57that final year. Jalen Brown's through the twenty-eight,
00:40:59twenty-nine season with no option on the end. Porzingis
00:41:01has two more years after this one. Tatum has next year and
00:41:04then a player option and I mean, like I said, they're
00:41:06probably gonna look to extend in the summer. Derek White has
00:41:07next year and that's it. So, they should look to extend him.
00:41:09Al Horford's the weird one. It it kinda feels like he might
00:41:12just play out his current contract and then retire which
00:41:14fair enough. He's thirty-eight at this point. Um Pritchett's
00:41:18under contract through twenty-seven, twenty-eight.
00:41:20Jaden Springer has another year to steal after this. O'Shea
00:41:23Berset does too. Jordan Walsh just three more years after
00:41:24this one. Like, they really locked up a lot of their core.
00:41:26If they can get a Derek White and Jason Tatum extension done,
00:41:28that is like, check, check, check, like checking all the
00:41:30boxes for this team and its longevity which is important
00:41:33cuz they're they're pretty good, Sam. I don't know if you
00:41:35notice. They're they're pretty good basketball team. I know
00:41:37they're a bigger fish, bigger fish to fry. Anyone ask Tatum
00:41:41about this? No, I don't think it's relevant enough yet.
00:41:47He'll get some, he'll, he'll probably get that question. I
00:41:49agree with you. The finals. Like, after they win, they'll
00:41:51probably ask him and he'll be like, what the hell? I, I agree
00:41:53with you completely. I just was thinking about the Derek White
00:41:56thing today because I had done the Celtics blog right up for
00:41:58it and I was like, huh? The only thing they really need to
00:42:01do to lock this team up like as a group is gonna be Tatum and
00:42:06I was like, did anyone even ask him about this but. It feels.
00:42:08Everyone's too obvious. Being like, hey, you suck. What do
00:42:11you think? I don't think since the Supermax has been a thing,
00:42:15I don't think there's been a player who has turned down a
00:42:16Supermax contract. Like, genuinely. Like, I don't think a
00:42:18player has been able to sign it and not signed it. So, I think
00:42:21it's just kinda like they're gonna. It is. Assume that he
00:42:24will and like you said, nobody has turned it down. Literally.
00:42:28It doesn't feel like Tatum hates it here by any means and
00:42:31would have interest in doing so. A player would have to
00:42:35vehemently hate the situation for them to not sign that much
00:42:38money and even if they did, they would sign it and request
00:42:41you. You don't pass up that amount of money like that. It's
00:42:44just. That's been the buzz around Mitchell. Even though
00:42:47now it seems like he's gonna stay cuz it's either him or
00:42:50Garland and it sounds like. Yeah. Just let him do whatever
00:42:52he wants and be a dictator in Cleveland but yeah, that was
00:42:56the buzz. Supermax then get out of here. Yeah. Anyway, I was
00:43:00about to say anyways and I'm gonna say okay but I'm a mess.
00:43:03Let's go to the email here. See what y'all had to say between
00:43:05games. A reminder as always, you guys can email us at HBTC
00:43:09pod at gmail.com again. HBTC pod at gmail.com. We have three
00:43:14today. First one from RJ. Um with love and respect. What's
00:43:18the sign of a good team? Morning folks. Time for a small
00:43:20reflection on an odd stat. Even with three-point shooting, we
00:43:23still think of ten points or more as a sizable lead. Ten
00:43:25points means the fastest way to retake the lead is that you
00:43:28have to hold your opponent scoreless while you make four
00:43:29three-pointers in a row. Not difficult but not the easiest
00:43:32thing to do either. And again, with everyone being willing and
00:43:34able to shoot three-pointers and getting double digit lead
00:43:36or falling behind by that much, it is an unusual occurrence in
00:43:38a game. This postseason Celtics have trailed by ten points in
00:43:41three of their in only three of their games. There are two
00:43:43losses and game three in Indy where the Celtics won through
00:43:45scoring at least five points in the the last five points in the
00:43:48final 39 seconds. I don't know where this ranks historically
00:43:52but I've got to believe it is a sign of a quality basketball
00:43:54team. Be well and let's win this thing RJ and noticer of
00:43:57weird things. Yeah, I mean, Celtics have been been pretty
00:44:00good. They're like historically, right? They have
00:44:02like the second best margin of victory over an entire season
00:44:06in postseason. Uh it's second ever behind the 96 Bulls like
00:44:10it's it's it's pretty **** good if you ask me. Yeah, it's funny
00:44:15that uh RJ brings this up. I disagree RJ. I've always felt
00:44:20like ten points is **** **** Anytime they're up around ten,
00:44:24I'm like, you know, I really wish they were up more points.
00:44:26So, I actually don't disagree. I completely agree with your
00:44:29angle but I feel like I haven't felt that a ten-point lead is
00:44:33safe in quite some time. Yeah. Um okay. Next email from Eli I
00:44:41believe. Uh rant correction LOL. Watch some more highlights
00:44:45and saw some uh some have the this is about his no finals
00:44:49logos on the court. Some have the logo on the court so I may
00:44:51be wrong about ABC taking it off but the fact that I can't
00:44:54remember it points how little of an emotional impact the logos
00:44:56have made on me. Another amendment I'd I'll still be
00:44:58there no matter what regardless of the aesthetic of the
00:45:00broadcast but as someone without the billion and a half
00:45:02dollars required to see the games in person, I prefer a
00:45:05better viewing experience. Let's **** go season four Eli.
00:45:09Yeah, the court the logos in the court would be cool. I
00:45:12like Eli actually tweeted us today. Uh just just retweeted
00:45:16it as we're recording this. Yeah and he he sent a screenshot
00:45:20of uh Greeny's tweet where Green was saying the same thing
00:45:23like the NBA has absolutely slashed what it used to be to
00:45:28have a finals court. Respect. Much appreciated. Thank you
00:45:33Eli. Uh next email from RJ again with love and respect.
00:45:37Trust Joe. Have fun and enjoy the game. Good evening guys.
00:45:39It's time you read this in the pod. I'll either look really
00:45:41clever or really dumb. Fortunately, I have no fear of
00:45:43looking dumb. I have no idea if KP plays Wednesday night and
00:45:46if he does, how effective he'll be. I do trust Joe to make the
00:45:49best call. I have no idea how Dallas fans will juice up the
00:45:52Mavericks or what Jason Kidd will roll out to try to
00:45:54improve his odds of winning but I'm confident the Celtics will
00:45:56play like they're having fun competing as a unit because
00:45:58that's what they've done all season long. Finally, I do know
00:46:01I'm going to enjoy watching the chess matches, the possession
00:46:03by possession matchups as well as the long game strategies
00:46:06because I'm a basketball fan and the Celtics have played the
00:46:08best ball of any team this season. I don't expect that to
00:46:11uh come to a screeching halt because a part of the foot that
00:46:13none of us knew existed 24 hours ago. Be well. Let's win
00:46:16this thing. RJ who is upset that he didn't take a long
00:46:19position on WebMD Stock Monday. How many people do you think
00:46:23this up on WebMD yesterday? A lot. Everybody. WebMD has to
00:46:28like rub their hands together anytime they see a major sports
00:46:31injury. Did you see um what's it called? Uh Tom Westerholmes
00:46:36post? What was it? Yeah, I did. I quote tweeted. It was like
00:46:4032 cases of this since 2006 and I just posted a video of Walter
00:46:45White falling to his knees. It's nuts. It's insane. ****
00:46:49bullshit is what it is. It's wild. Um okay, not an email but
00:46:52we have a DM uh from Hugh who messaged us the other day uh
00:46:58and he sent us an email. We're gonna share it on the pod. He's
00:47:01a long time listener and he he messaged us and said, hey, if
00:47:03you guys are welcome. It's on the sheet if you want the the
00:47:06long form thing if you were sharing screen. Okay, good.
00:47:10Here we go. Uh fellas, love the pod. Just started getting
00:47:13into podcasts a few months ago and this is one of my top
00:47:15lessons. I graduated from law school in May and I'm studying
00:47:17ten plus hours per day for the bar exam and this has
00:47:19single-handedly got me through the monotonous parts of my day
00:47:22when I can't when I can tune in and get away from uh
00:47:24everything for a minute. So, thank you very much for that.
00:47:26Appreciate you, Hugh. I'm glad we can help you. Thank you very
00:47:28much for uh listening and uh reaching out. For context, I am
00:47:34from Plymouth, Mass have lived in Boston the last 4 years. A
00:47:36lifelong diehard Celtics fans and no ball. I'm writing to you
00:47:39in hope and inquiry. I just listened to your player grades
00:47:41for game two and the Tatum grade for me is a B or B minus
00:47:43as well and I'm a little shocked at one subtopic uh that
00:47:46went unmentioned. I want to know if I'm crazy or seeing
00:47:48things you noticed or you noticed it too. There's
00:47:51something intangible about watching Tatum in the playoff
00:47:53sometimes specifically in the finals where I can feel his
00:47:56worry and indecision. Sunday night when he got the ball in
00:47:58his hands, many times, he looked hesitant, scared to
00:48:00shoot, and it was very reminiscent of the twenty-two
00:48:01finals for me. I don't know if it's the moment being too big.
00:48:04Jkid's comments, his ego getting in the way, social
00:48:06media narrators, plain old confidence, or none of the
00:48:07above. I'm not upset with him at all for his lack of shooting
00:48:10ability and actually the opposite where I think earlier
00:48:12in his career when he had bad shooting nights, he would take
00:48:14the rest of the game off, meaning not play defense, not
00:48:16rebound, not pass, and not even look for the ball really. I'm
00:48:18extremely happy and proud of him that he has grown in the in
00:48:20this regard and truly has stepped up in doing everything
00:48:23else right on those bad nights. So, I know to look in his face
00:48:25after he got the N1 layup to fall makes me so angry like get
00:48:28pumped up, man. Uh and then there's secondary one. Um let's
00:48:33see if I can open it if my DM will let me. Uh but there was
00:48:36something about this half second he had sometimes to pull
00:48:39up or make a pass and it just looked like he didn't know what
00:48:41he wanted to do with the ball. When during a regular season
00:48:44game, I've never felt that from him. I feel like his efficiency
00:48:46in shooting in the playoffs has never been consistently great
00:48:48again which is fine. Um which is again fine I should say. Um
00:48:52but I worry that it's much more mental problem than a physical
00:48:54one. Credit also to him because I think a majority of players
00:48:56may look indecisive when they're getting double and
00:48:58triple team but at the same time, he knew that was coming
00:49:00game two and I have no statistics to back it up. I
00:49:03just feel like as a former player myself, not at a high
00:49:05level. Uh and knowing the game and watching eyeball test wise,
00:49:08the confidence didn't seem like it was there nor is he exuding
00:49:10it. I am in Tatum's quarter and I think even if it is mental,
00:49:13it is something he can overcome and there is still a lot of
00:49:15room for him to grow. As he has recently become an elite
00:49:18amongst other things. Further, I think that if he can get a
00:49:20ring on his finger, all those negative and self-conscious
00:49:22thoughts may fly out the window and he can potentially
00:49:23ascend into a player that maybe no one expects him to ever
00:49:25be. I just wanted to know if I'm the only one seeing this or
00:49:28you guys do too if you think it's real. Real if it's an
00:49:30issue and if you'll grow out of it or this is if or if this is
00:49:33where we are going to live with for a long time. Thanks again
00:49:35and sorry for the length of this message. Sincerely, Hugh.
00:49:38Thanks, Hugh. We appreciate you. Thanks. Thanks for tuning
00:49:40in. Don't apologize. Um I think it's a mix of I think some of
00:49:45the times he hesitated and didn't shoot or pass
00:49:48immediately or knows he was cold, drove, and then it ended
00:49:52up being good things. He found a pass but II do think there
00:49:55were some of it that II truly think he's just like **** I
00:50:00need to win, man. Like II just need to win. So, I think he's
00:50:02hesitant like I don't want to mess this up. I haven't been
00:50:04hot. I'm going to try to find a pass and sometimes when they
00:50:06cut those passes off, he looks like he's hesitant and II think
00:50:08I was going to say before he even said it like I think once
00:50:11he gets a ring, all of that's going to go away and he's
00:50:13going to be very confident and he may still be inefficient at
00:50:15times but II do think there is AA inherent pressure of I just
00:50:20need to win it. Like I just need to do it. So, I I can't I
00:50:23can't **** it up. Well, I mean, I'm sure you feel this too but
00:50:29maybe less than me because you're more uh involved in all
00:50:33of it and you're less detached and you're there every day but
00:50:35I mean, I feel a pressure for them to win. I do as someone
00:50:40who supports the team. Like, I'm not making it about me but
00:50:43I can only imagine what it's like for Jason Tatum who really
00:50:46gets the the brunt of the criticism from everybody
00:50:49including me at times. He has a ton of the responsibility on
00:50:54his shoulders. He is seeing three to five defenders every
00:50:58time he goes inside the yard and yet he still remains
00:51:02somewhat level-headed. I do think he makes a pretty good
00:51:05point especially like thinking about some of the misses at the
00:51:09rim in game two like maybe that had a little bit to do with it
00:51:12like he's like I'm not really sure if I'm going up with this
00:51:15because when we did talk about the grades, I remember I was
00:51:18just like one thing I didn't love about this despite it
00:51:20being a good Tatum passing game was he loves to leave his feet.
00:51:25So, when he leaves his feet to make these kickout passes, I
00:51:28don't think he's entirely sure if he's gonna pass or go up
00:51:31which is fine. It's like a read option in football. You
00:51:33actually have to read the situation, see what the best
00:51:35play is, and make the, well, read but at the same time, it
00:51:40can become dangerous because if they cut off whatever your
00:51:44first option is, the second option becomes a panic. You
00:51:47end up turning the ball over, you smoke these layups, and
00:51:49then Bill Simmons and Rosillo talked about this on Sunday. He
00:51:53really didn't get into taking the mid-range pull-ups. Not so
00:51:57much the fadeaways that are ugly but like beating the first
00:52:00defender and before that center comes up to actually make an
00:52:05impact on you, taking the look because that's another element
00:52:08of the game that he could totally capitalize on and it's
00:52:11something in the past I know we have talked about in this show
00:52:13where when we talk about the math game and the three
00:52:16pointers versus the layups and you know, when I'm like, I love
00:52:19the mid-range shot. These are the spots you have to do it
00:52:23because I've said this to you before, Jack. You have to give
00:52:27the defense a third thing that they have to pay attention to.
00:52:31If they know you're not taking the three when you're Tatum,
00:52:33the way he's played in these first couple games, they're
00:52:36like, okay. Yeah, he's going to the ring. He's going right to
00:52:38the rim. Well, I think I've seen a lot of people talk about
00:52:41this and this has been something we've talked about
00:52:42like while we're traveling to like Tatum had that whole rant
00:52:45and Noah posted a video of it of or not a rant but like the
00:52:48whole conversation of man. I don't care what I have to do
00:52:50like I don't need to score like I just want to pass by the
00:52:52replay. I want to win and it got like 8 million views on
00:52:53her Twitter and everyone was like dude. You took the most
00:52:55shots in the team like what do you mean that's **** and I saw
00:52:58that but if he doesn't take the shots that he took the Mavs
00:53:02wouldn't send the same amount of pressure at him and he
00:53:04wouldn't like there's a balance to it. He's the best player
00:53:06which is why they are sending so many bodies at him which is
00:53:09why he's able to be as effective as he is as a
00:53:11facilitator but if he stops taking those shots and they
00:53:13won't have to guard them like he has to take that many shots
00:53:17and for what it's worth 22 shots is not like some outrageous
00:53:20number like it was a lot in the context but one I don't think
00:53:23he forced up to too much. I think there were a few that he
00:53:25could have done without whatever but like he averaged
00:53:28what in the regular season 21 like it's one above his
00:53:30regular season average. It's higher than his postseason
00:53:32average but like it's not like he took 30 shots. You know
00:53:35what I'm saying? Like II thought that was a bit
00:53:37overblown but I think Tatum would be alright. I mean I
00:53:40didn't there weren't too many chances in that game to win
00:53:46where I really felt like Tatum was forcing. I thought he took
00:53:50some really bad ones down the stretch. If you want me to
00:53:54point anything fourth quarter head in the microwave material
00:53:57besides that nothing too crazy. I the one that stuck out to me
00:54:02the most prior to that was halftime him not taking the
00:54:04shot. He had an open. Exactly. And I think this plays into
00:54:07Hughes message to us where he was like alright don't know if
00:54:11I should shoot this or not. I'm going to try and create
00:54:13something. Oh wait we don't have any time and then it's
00:54:16just eternal. Which is why it's such a tough balance like he's
00:54:18in the hardest job of the like on the team by far. Anyways
00:54:22let's let's go to the NBA here. Got a few NBA things quick
00:54:25hitters before we get to anything. First one
00:54:28unfortunately Jerry West passed away this morning. The
00:54:33logo came out of nowhere. I mean I woke up to it and I saw
00:54:37it and I was like in shock because like this wasn't
00:54:40something that you saw coming like it wasn't like oh he was
00:54:41sick or whatever and he might have been like but it wasn't
00:54:43like public information public knowledge. Man it feels like
00:54:47we're losing like so many legends like over the past two
00:54:50days and even in the past like month like Bill Walton and
00:54:53people are getting old. Jerry West it's it's brutal. It's very
00:54:56sad. That sucks. I mean that that whole era now I mean like
00:55:00just thinking back like Tommy had passed away in 2021.
00:55:05Havlicek had passed away in 2019. Bill a couple years ago.
00:55:09Yep. Bill Casey Jones uh Bill Walton. Uh Jerry West now Jerry
00:55:15West. I think Elgin Baylor passed away too. So like you
00:55:18know sadly that era is just getting up there in age and as
00:55:23we continue to go here and live on and you're going to see
00:55:26more and more of names you recognize being in those kind
00:55:30of news stories which is very sad and it's amazing how many
00:55:33people both Bill Walton since we didn't really talk about it
00:55:37when he passed away because it was just in a weird in between
00:55:40gap for us and Jerry West impacted like I saw people
00:55:43posting stories about Jerry West today. The Bill Walton
00:55:46stories we got last week or a couple weeks ago were
00:55:48unbelievable talking about the impact he had on everybody he
00:55:52met the Mike Breen one that Mike Breen told on old man or
00:55:55actually he told on part of my tape but it was a tremendous
00:55:58story about his father. Anyway. Yeah. He he made an impact on
00:56:03so many people's lives and that is one thing that I think
00:56:07everybody does a pretty good job of when these things happen
00:56:10is coming out and being like these are the best things about
00:56:12it. Yeah. Brutal. Uh R.I.P. Jerry West but just wanted to
00:56:18mention it. Um next piece of me news. Dan Hurley, Sam.
00:56:22Ultimate respect move. Did not take the Lakers job. Huge win.
00:56:25Staying at UConn. Huge win. We were early on Monday. Yes. And
00:56:30uh the news had not dropped yet so. No. Came out that he's
00:56:34staying at UConn. He's gonna get free wings forever. Very
00:56:37surprised. I was shocked. I thought he's. I'm surprised too.
00:56:40Free wings? What do you mean? Someplace in Connecticut was
00:56:44free wings for life. That's electric. Yeah. He's the man.
00:56:49He's got a chance to be one of the greatest. College coach
00:56:52ever. Like. And I think he recognized that and decided he
00:56:55won his date. And Zach Lowe came out and said it I think it
00:56:58was on one of those ESPN shows. That Lakers job really isn't
00:57:01that great of a job. Like you're being set up to fail.
00:57:04Zach Lowe pointed them out as a play in team every year. I've
00:57:06been on this show saying like if you take that job you're
00:57:09going to go in there and get no credit or all the blame. If
00:57:12they win it's LeBron's doing and if they lose it's all your
00:57:15fault. And that's really as far as it goes surrounding the
00:57:18Lakers. I don't know why Hurley would wanna and he clearly
00:57:21didn't leave UConn for that because he's got it made there.
00:57:24He's the star of the show. His son is on the team. And he's
00:57:29set up the program to be successful going forward. He's
00:57:32hoping to win a third straight national title last year. Why?
00:57:34How many teams have won? Lakers. How many teams have won?
00:57:36Just UCLA back in the day with um John Woodness. They've got a
00:57:41good chance too. They're gonna be like a really good team
00:57:43again next year, right? I you're asking the wrong guy.
00:57:46Everything I've heard is yes. But I I wasn't sure. All of New
00:57:50England is rejoiced unless you support a big East team. That's
00:57:53not UConn. Like PC people I know, none too pleased with
00:57:56this. Good for Dan Hurley. Uh last thing I think speaking of
00:58:02speaking of coaches, the Cavaliers have a few finalists
00:58:05for their head coaching job. Jake Fisher just tweeted out
00:58:07in front of the pod. James Burigo, Kenny Atkinson, and
00:58:09Mike and Nori have all advanced to in-person meetings
00:58:12this week for Cleveland's head coaching job. It feels like
00:58:14James Burigo is bound to get a job. Mike and Nori is, I mean,
00:58:17he basically just coached the Wolves uh to the Western
00:58:20Conference Finals cuz Chris Fincher got hurt. And then
00:58:22Kenny Atkinson has already gotten head coaching job. Just
00:58:24said, I don't wanna coach the Hornets. Um you know what's
00:58:27crazy? The how how bad the Hornets fumbled. Like to have
00:58:32to like obviously have Charles Charlie now cuz so they're good
00:58:35but like James Burigo shouldn't have been fired. Kenny
00:58:37Atkinson said, I don't even wanna coach you and now they're
00:58:40both like prime head coaching candidates again. Like, what
00:58:42are we doing? Like James Burigo's a great coach. Like
00:58:44he's a great offensive mind. You play him with some defensive
00:58:46guys. It'll be good. Kenny Atkinson like obviously is that
00:58:49developmental guy. I don't know as much about Mike and Nori
00:58:51but like Cleveland's gonna be in a good spot man. Uh they're
00:58:53gonna be they're gonna be good spot with any of those guys uh
00:58:55if they end up hiring. I can't believe how long it's been
00:59:00since Kenny Atkinson had a head coaching job. Because when he
00:59:03was the coach of the Nets before they got KD and Kyrie.
00:59:06That team was like in that weird overachieving space that
00:59:11the Celtics were in for years. And then they brought in those
00:59:14guys and those guys were like we don't want him on the team.
00:59:16We want this guy to be the coach, Steve Nash. And then
00:59:19Atkinson just went to Golden State and has been there. Went
00:59:23to the Clippers first for a year. And then we went to the
00:59:25Clippers first and he's been there. But yeah. He's he's been
00:59:27around. Like he's just been being an assistant. It just
00:59:30doesn't make any sense to me why this guy hasn't gotten a
00:59:32job yet. And with Borrego being consistently put out there as a
00:59:37candidate for this, I'd imagine he's number one on their list
00:59:40too. So, he's probably not even gonna get this job. Yeah. It's
00:59:46wild. Mike Inori will get a job too soon too. How old is Mike
00:59:48Inori? Mike Inori age. He is fifty. Okay, yeah. That's
00:59:52around the right age. For most coaches. Um okay. Should we go
00:59:56to the Rattles here? Rattles time. What do you got?
01:00:02Rattles Rattles the state of Rhode Island. So, today, I got
01:00:12a notice in the mail that I need to renew my registration
01:00:16of my car which is normal. It's up in July. Knew it was coming.
01:00:20However, year or two, I think it was two years ago because I
01:00:24was still at the news station when it happened. They
01:00:27redesigned our license plates. I'm gonna pull it up. I'm gonna
01:00:31pull up the old design because the the old design and new
01:00:35design are similar but I'm not a fan of the new design. I got
01:00:40it. It looks **** stupid. I've got it. Can you take the rat
01:00:43off? Take the rat off? You got it. Here we go. Here we go.
01:00:48Okay. So, old one. This is the old one, right? This way. I
01:00:51recognize this. That's the new one. That that yes, that is the
01:00:54old wave. Sorry. Yeah. Yeah, I was gonna say. And the new one
01:00:58is that one not it is that one. They look similar. Multiple
01:01:04ways. But I'm telling you right now. The new one looks ****
01:01:09cheap. I hate the way it looks. It looks like, you know how
01:01:13when you buy a Celtics jersey and you can buy the $60 one or
01:01:17you can buy the $110 one. Yeah. The old one is the $110
01:01:23one. The new one is the $60 one. And now I have to change
01:01:29and get this one and put it on the back of my car. Now, when I
01:01:33got this notice today, I said to myself, you know what? I'm
01:01:37gonna go on the site and I'm gonna see if I can get one of
01:01:40these cool looking ones because I'm sure they have it in
01:01:44in Rhode Island. You can donate whatever the charge is to get a
01:01:49special plate to whatever charity it represents. Yeah.
01:01:53And there's an option for you to get a different looking
01:01:56plate. So, I'm from Warwick. Those of you that are on the OG
01:02:03side of things will remember Rocky Point which I do not
01:02:06remember but Rocky Point was an amusement park literally what
01:02:10would have been 10 minutes from my house if that. So, it's
01:02:13very close. It was a big part of our city's history for a
01:02:17while and you can get a license plate. Oh, you can get a
01:02:20license plate like this one. Rocky Point 123. You see it
01:02:24right there. You have the little arch. Nice sunset in the
01:02:27background. Some seagulls and you get this by donating. We
01:02:33pay $42 and twenty of it goes to whatever Rocky Point
01:02:36Restoration Foundation. So, I'm like, okay, you know what?
01:02:39That's not bad and there's a link on the RIDMV site. Takes
01:02:43you to the site to the foundation. Now, this is where
01:02:46I have a problem. They only take payment through the mail.
01:02:52There's no option on the website for me to pay them to
01:02:56get myself one of these license plates. Reminding you,
01:03:00this, the way you get these is through donating to a charity.
01:03:07Don't you think you would make it easier to donate to a
01:03:09charity if you were trying to get money from people? Like,
01:03:12Jack, if we're taking donations, would we, we're
01:03:15trying to fund our channel. We're trying to send ourselves
01:03:18wherever. Say, you wanted to pay for your ships to the
01:03:20finals. Wouldn't you make it easy for people to give you
01:03:23money? Wouldn't you make it so they don't have to jump through
01:03:25hoops for you to get the funds? Yeah. Do you have to send it in
01:03:31cash or something? You have to send it in the mail, check or
01:03:34cash. I'm not doing it. It's a lot of work. Why? I feel like
01:03:38it's not that much work. I don't have checks. You cash? I
01:03:44don't have cash on me.
01:03:47Tough. Yeah, it should it should just be a like typing
01:03:51your credit card. Exactly. That'd be the easiest way to
01:03:54do it and now I have to have this ugly great value license
01:03:57plate on my car. I actually can't get an antique one.
01:04:00That's how old my car is. Yours is still better than
01:04:03Massachusetts. Massachusetts is boring. I mean, it's boring.
01:04:05It just is boring. Rallis the heat man. I hate Texas. This
01:04:09place sucks. I can't do the heat. I'm not a heat guy. I
01:04:12need the cold. I'm sweating. We stood in the line for like it
01:04:15was only like 20 minutes outside but it was like in the
01:04:17sun sweating just completely can't do it. It was terrible.
01:04:20It's brutal. Yeah, I need it. We got in. We are playing like
01:04:24landed at like twelve at night like midnight. It was like 78.
01:04:28I'm like, I can't do this. This this this is not for me. I'm
01:04:32not. You know, I was talking to somebody today. Apparently,
01:04:36when it's hot out, your body has to work harder for
01:04:39everything. So, people are in worse moods like it. You
01:04:43literally have to be like, am I sad or am I just hot? It sucks.
01:04:47I hate it. I hate it. I didn't know that. I remember. Yeah.
01:04:51Five years ago, my boy Greg and I went to Fenway Park to see
01:04:54Liverpool play. I had bought tickets. It was 100° that day.
01:04:58It was **** terrible. Awful and we wait. We got there early.
01:05:01We waited outside. Seats were in the sun. They weren't
01:05:04covered by a shade of like the the stands that overhang. We
01:05:09were directly in the sunlight for as long as possible.
01:05:12Terrible. Also, the pilot who landed us in Charlotte for a
01:05:16layover trampolined off the runway but like it was it was
01:05:20the craziest landing I've ever been a part of and like I said
01:05:22it was like I was fine um and there wasn't too much
01:05:24turbulence on their flight but it was it was crazy. You know,
01:05:27wide-eyed. You're like, I was like, yeah. Not even worried.
01:05:32Just like what the hell is happening. Um but I don't think
01:05:35I have anything else. It's been pretty chill. Save some stories
01:05:37for other things. Do you got anything? Uh yeah. So, as I
01:05:41mentioned, I went to the baseball game with my dad
01:05:43yesterday. Rat list, the people of Fenway Park. We've talked
01:05:49about this many a time. I've never seen people who enjoy
01:05:53standing so much than the **** people showing up late to the
01:05:57baseball game walking up the aisle and completely eclipsing
01:06:01my view of the action. Just get to the **** place on time. It's
01:06:06not that difficult. It's a Tuesday. It's not it's not a
01:06:10major traffic day. Get to the ballpark on time. You knew you
01:06:14were coming to the game tonight. Just show up and I
01:06:17think that's a bad sports fan thing in general. Like showing
01:06:20up late to games is sad. It's sad, sad, sad behavior. Can't
01:06:24be late. Can't be late. You can't be late. And Fenway in
01:06:28in the Red Sox have become such a figure or epitome of bad
01:06:34fandom and and I'm not talking about the people that are
01:06:38boycotting the games. Ownership's fault. It's
01:06:40ownership. Because of ownership. Yeah, they're
01:06:42ownership doesn't care to put a product on the field. No. The
01:06:44people that care about the team aren't buying tickets because
01:06:47they don't wanna pay these people and then you have the
01:06:50social club going to the game. You just have people that wanna
01:06:52go there, take selfies. Like, they're just going to Fenway
01:06:55for Fenway. And this has led me to come up with a verdict on
01:07:00Sweet Caroline Jack. Sweet Caroline, a controversial
01:07:05tradition at Fenway Park. People do not all love it. Some
01:07:09people are sick and tired of it. They want it to be done.
01:07:11Some people love it. They go, they sing along and it's a
01:07:14really fun moment to be a part of. I'm out. I'm officially
01:07:19I've not always hated it. But yesterday being there and just
01:07:24kind of like being like, huh? This is why everyone's here. In
01:07:28when I'm drunk at when I'm sober. Final verdict. Final
01:07:32verdict. Fair verdict. Very fair verdict. I I could
01:07:36appreciate that. Um. There with the fellas. Little bit.
01:07:40Feeling it. Hanging out. That comes out. You're like, oh.
01:07:44That's the vibe. My dad. My dad could not um get enough of how
01:07:48dead the the Red Sox look as a team though. Like they have no
01:07:52energy about him. That wasn't even a game where they got their
01:07:54asses kicked in terms of giving up a bunch of runs. They got
01:07:58four hits the whole game and three of them came before the
01:08:00ninth inning. So it was just a long just nothing offensive
01:08:05game from them and they looked lifeless. Uh final rat list
01:08:08item is anti-rat list to the guy at the gym. I wore this
01:08:11Celtic shirt to the gym today. He was like, good luck on
01:08:15on Banner 18. He was talking about it. Respect. He
01:08:18definitely didn't know who I was which I don't expect
01:08:20anybody to but. Handshake. Respect. Handshake indeed. He
01:08:23was just like talking about it and he was like, yeah, heard
01:08:27about the KP news that sucks and I was like, well, actually
01:08:29like, looks okay. He was walking around and stuff. Like
01:08:32I broke the news to him. He was like, I really wanna see
01:08:35Orford get one. That's like me too. Hell yeah. **** yeah. Love
01:08:40that. Alright, that's all I got. I'm gonna go hang out by
01:08:43the court. Chill pregame. Uh and then go to the press
01:08:47conference, et cetera, et cetera. Appreciate you for
01:08:49tuning in. I'll let them take it out. Hell yeah. Thank you
