More than 4,500 people have marched through Brussels in protest against right-wing ideology.
00:09
Organized by the Anti-Fascist Coordination of Belgium, the march brought together around
00:13
20 social movements and organizations.
00:17
It's the second major march in the Belgian capital denouncing the far-right since the
00:21
EU elections on June 9th, which saw right and far-right parties winning big.
00:27
This march is important today to show a message of hope against the message of despair that
00:32
the far-right wants to bring us.
00:33
It is important to show that we are in solidarity with everyone, regardless of their nationality,
00:37
regardless of what they win, regardless of what they do.
00:39
We are in solidarity and we want a society that does not divide us, a society that does
00:43
not exclude us, a society that is not racist, that is not sexist.
00:47
Arguably the most dramatic win for the right was in France.
00:51
Marine Le Pen's national rally took first place in the polls with more than 31% of the
00:56
vote, prompting President Emmanuel Macron to dissolve the National Assembly and call
01:01
snap elections.
01:03
There were also victories for right-leaning and populist parties in Italy, Austria, Hungary
01:08
and Bulgaria.
01:12
Demonstrators in Brussels were keen to show that the rise of the far-right wasn't inevitable
01:17
and that it was important to confront it by building social and democratic alternatives.
