00:00 Amy, we have met over Zoom. The last time I spoke to you, the first and last time actually,

00:04 was for Moxie and now here we are.

00:06 It's nice to be in person.

00:07 In person at last! And we've got an Inside Out 2 at last. How does it feel to finally be sharing

00:13 this because people have been waiting for this for so long.

00:16 Me too. Me, I am also the people. When they told me they were doing another one I said

00:22 finally. I was so excited and then I knew that would mean five years later it would be coming

00:28 out. But yeah, we've been working on it for a couple of years. I know Kelsey Mann, the director,

00:32 Pete Docter, who directed the first one. I think it's been a five-year journey. I'm so happy it's

00:37 out. I love it. I think it's great and I think it couldn't be a better time for us to put out

00:42 a movie like this.

00:43 And I like to think that I'm generally quite optimistic. I try and see the good in things

00:47 but I'm also Scottish. So we're also quite self-deprecating.

00:50 What is it? What would you think the emotion of Scotland would be?

00:53 Anger!

00:54 Yeah.

00:56 I speak of myself for that. But probably mean anger. Yeah, we're buddies.

01:01 I would say anger.

01:02 I mean anger is a ginge basically.

01:04 Exactly. A bit of anger and anxiety, which is what I'm serving today as well. That's probably

01:09 my whole life. Anger and anxiety.

01:11 I think joy brings so much joy.

01:15 Yeah, she does.

01:16 When you're playing Joy, do you have a different outlook on things? Are you more optimistic

01:21 when you're playing Joy?

01:21 Yes, I actually am. It is a great job because it gets you out of your head, into your body.

01:28 It reminds you. The film is one of the messages is that as you get older, you have to find

01:34 room for joy. You have to make it a priority. It's not always easy, especially in our times

01:39 and our current climate. So it does do that for me. I think it adds years to my life to

01:48 play. It's good for my health.

01:51 Literally, I can see that. I think it adds years to all of our lives in a positive way.

01:56 You play in Joy because it brings joy.

01:57 Life is short and there's a lot to worry about, but you have to prioritize every once in a

02:04 while finding things that make you happy. I mean, or else why are we here? You have to laugh.

02:08 Well, talking about things that make you happy, I love Mean Girls, massive Mean Girls, Stan.

02:14 I'm loving the introduction of nostalgia. I love what that emotion is.

02:17 Yes.

02:18 Nostalgia is one of my favorite emotions. I love a bit of nostalgia. Mrs. George brings

02:23 me all sorts of nostalgia, all sorts of joy. Is there any particular roles for you that

02:28 bring you nostalgia and joy?

02:29 Well, Mrs. George, that role, the first Mean Girls definitely makes me nostalgic because

02:34 it was, gosh, 20 plus years ago. And I was on SNL and working with my friend who I had

02:41 started out with in Chicago, Tina. So that is definitely one. Almost everything I do

02:46 now when I look back feels like a moment in time. And it's kind of what they say is true.

02:53 The actual story behind things you don't really remember, but you remember the feeling.

02:58 I love nostalgia, that character, because she comes in with a cup of tea. She's like

03:02 this. She comes in with a little cup of tea and she's like, "Remember when..."

03:05 And the great June Squibb does the voice in nostalgia. So she's a genius. Anyway,

03:10 everything I've done, even yes, I'm nostalgic for yesterday.

03:14 Yeah.

03:15 I'm nostalgic for the beginning of this conversation.

03:17 Stop. That's joy rubbing off on you. Now you're rubbing off on me and it's just all

03:21 positive vibes all around.

03:23 Yeah, I know. It's the best feeling. But I hope people love it. I think that they're

03:27 going to really respond to the way the movie gets into what young people and old people

03:34 and everyone in between are feeling, which is complicated.

03:37 Yeah. And there's something about these movies that just make you, as an adult,

03:40 just want to bawl your eyes out, even when it's not sad.

03:45 Like something really deep. And then they just switch it up and make it really funny.

03:50 You truly, in a film that's about the gamut of emotions, you run the gamut of emotions

03:59 when you watch it.
