00:03 Visiting her old primary school, singer and presenter Heidi Range
00:06 connected with her roots to back the NSPCC's Childhood Day.
00:10 It's so lovely to be here. It's obviously really nostalgic.
00:15 I met my best friend when I came here when I was five in reception
00:20 and we're still best mates and here two kids are here today so that's really lovely.
00:24 Heidi returned to Holy Rosary Catholic Primary School in Aintree
00:27 to help with fundraising activities including helping out during the charity's Childhood Day Mile.
00:33 The NSPCC is an amazing charity. I'm a campaigner for childhood with them
00:38 and you know as a mum it's important to me to empower them to speak out if they feel something's wrong
00:44 and that's important for all children so when I was approached by the NSPCC to get involved it's a no-brainer.
00:50 Childhood Day takes place on Friday June 7th with primary schools across the UK taking part in fun and games
00:57 as well as fundraising for the charity.
00:59 NSPCC know that over half a million children in the UK suffer abuse every year which can't go on
01:06 so we NSPCC have set up Childhood Day which is our annual fundraising and awareness day.
01:13 We also know that strong communities can help keep children safe.
01:16 The annual fundraising and awareness day will help give people opportunity to do that
01:21 whether that's by fundraising or helping facilitate others to fundraise
01:27 or just to simply help us spread awareness.
01:29 Heidi also went to the NSPCC North West Hub, the Hargreaves Centre, to meet staff
01:34 and see the local services the charity provides.
01:37 What I love about the NSPCC is even though they go into schools with really young children it's all age appropriate
01:43 even though as adults we know it's a scary subject they don't talk to the children in a way that frightens them
01:50 they basically are empowering them and educating them so that they can speak out if they feel like something's not right.
