00:00 The golf community is mourning the loss of two-time PGA Tour winner Grayson Murray.
00:05 PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan announced in a statement
00:10 "We were devastated to learn and are heartbroken to share that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray
00:17 passed away this morning.
00:19 I am at a loss for words.
00:21 The PGA Tour is a family and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same.
00:28 We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones."
00:32 The news comes just one day after the golf pro withdrew from the second round of the
00:38 2024 Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, citing an illness.
00:43 According to multiple reports, Grayson played golf at Wake Forest University, East Carolina University, and Arizona State
00:51 University before turning pro. He won his first PGA Tour title at the
00:57 2017 Barbosal Championship when he was 23 years old.
01:02 He went on to win his second title at this year's Sony Open in Hawaii, a
01:07 victory that also marked his career-high ranking of number 46 top golfer in the world.
01:13 Grayson was a strong advocate for mental health awareness and spoke very openly about his own battle.
01:21 Exactly one year ago, the PGA Tour winner spoke with the Corn Fairy Tour, a company owned and operated by the
01:28 PGA Tour that focuses on highlighting players past to the PGA Tour.
01:33 "Yeah, my parents have been through,
01:36 you know, hell and back basically for the last six years with me
01:42 fighting some some mental stuff and
01:46 it's not easy on me and the people around me that love me. They don't like to see me down and
01:51 they've been my number one supporters and everyone has their battles and
01:56 sometimes
01:59 people are able to hide them and function and sometimes you're not and
02:04 you know, I think our society now is getting better about
02:08 accepting that, you know, it's okay to not be okay type deal and I've embraced that type
02:16 mentality and not ashamed that I go through depression and anxiety and
02:20 you know, I know I've helped people out in the past just through my social media DMs, people message me and
02:28 you know, and that's I think part of I can use my platform to do to continue to help
02:36 with things like that."
02:39 Following Grayson's death, his management company GSE Worldwide issued a statement to the Associated Press
02:45 saying, quote, "We will hold off on commenting until we learn further details,
02:51 but our heart aches for his family, his friends, and all who loved him during this very difficult time."
02:57 Grayson was 30 years old.
