Millions of Travelers Face Widespread Flight Delays and Rising Costs this Memorial Day Weekend

Travelers trying to beat the Memorial Day rush are seeing flight delays and higher prices, with nearly 3 million people expected to pass through airport checkpoints on Friday, which could rival the record set on the Sunday after Thanksgiving last year. Widespread flight delays were reported nationwide on Thursday, especially in the New York City area and Dallas-Fort Worth, but relatively few flights were canceled. AAA estimates nearly 44 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home between Thursday and Monday, with 38 million taking road trips. The TSA expects Friday to be the busiest travel day of the holiday weekend as many head out for long weekends.
