00:00 Milan is about 15th back now, he's gonna have to find something special as Gabbiri goes long.
00:04 Hofstetter also, there is a Hofstetter goes in the center with Dainese on his wheel.
00:08 Hofstetter, Dainese, here comes Keiten-Groves, is it finally gonna be the day for Groves?
00:12 Groves hits the front, Melilla on the right-hand side of the road, Dainese in the mix,
00:16 Milan with the lunge, Milan!
00:18 Milan and Melilla takes the win by a whisker, by a whisker from the Maglia Ciclamino.
00:25 Stage 19 was a penultimate day in the mountains in the 2024 Giro d'Italia, 157km,
00:37 predominantly uphill and finishing on the famous ascent to Zapata.
00:42 A day for a breakaway, a day for some GC action, uncertainty, over the peloton,
00:47 Dani Martinez in second place and EF Education as well as Decathlon 82 Ala Mondial
00:53 looking potentially to get riders in the breakaway.
00:55 The flag dropping in bright sunshine before they headed eventually up into the rain.
01:01 Very active start of the race, blown on by strong tailwinds.
01:05 Eventually a 10-rider group got up the road,
01:08 but not for long as they headed towards the selection of towns and the foothills.
01:15 Julian Alaphilippe attacking and taking with him another nine riders
01:18 who eventually got themselves together as they made their way to the first bonus sprint of the day.
01:24 Jonathan Davai is also in the group, Julian Alaphilippe though,
01:28 taking this smaller group that would swell in size through the first sprint of the day.
01:31 And then again, still active behind and another group getting up the road,
01:37 trying to hunt them down with three riders from EF Education Easypost,
01:40 trying to make it a 19-rider move off the front of the peloton who eventually let the break go.
01:46 It took a while before the group of the three EF Education Easypost
01:51 riders, including Gail Steinhauser, managed to make the junction.
01:54 But in the end, there were 19 riders off the front as they headed to the Intergiro
01:59 with UAE Team Emirates allowing the gap to go up for once.
02:02 No action threatening in the GC group as the breakaway was secure in their victory.
02:09 But who would it be heading to the Intergiro at Palauro?
02:13 It was Manueli Taurozzi who just drifted off the front to take the Intergiro on the day.
02:18 Alaphilippe then caught him up as they headed to the Passo Duran and Alaphilippe
02:23 attacking from the foot of the climb.
02:25 Forcing a selection, Taurozzi briefly part of it,
02:28 Steinhauser and Navai is going with him and Palaios Sanchez battling to get back on terms.
02:32 Quentin Aermann is also part of this elite group of riders
02:37 on the steep slopes of the Passo Duran.
02:39 Alaphilippe over the top of the Category 2 climb,
02:43 with Georg Steinhauser interestingly picking up second place.
02:47 Alaphilippe then went the way of Julian Alaphilippe once again,
03:01 the second bonus sprint of the day.
03:02 And then onto the next categorised climb and again Alaphilippe from the very get-go
03:07 started to prize the group clear.
03:09 Towing with the idea of going solo but joined once again by Sanchez
03:12 and by Navai and by Steinhauser.
03:15 A selection of riders who have already taken victories at this year's Giro d'Italia.
03:19 As the rain started to fall over the top of the second categorised climb of the day,
03:23 it was Steinhauser who picked up a further nine points in the King of the Mountains competition.
03:28 Then on wet roads, Andrea Vendrami, who had struggled on both the previous climbs,
03:33 clipped off the front and started to establish an advantage.
03:35 Chased down initially by Julian Alaphilippe and Jonathan Navaias,
03:39 but those groups would come together.
03:42 Andrea Vendrami, a winner at the Giro d'Italia back in 2021 though,
03:46 was now 30 seconds ahead and when they headed into the last 15 kilometres,
03:51 pretty much uphill all the way to the top of the Cima Sapada climb,
03:55 Andrea Vendrami was out of sight.
03:58 Six riders then getting together,
04:00 Steinhauser attacked that group and went off in pursuit of Vendrami,
04:05 joined by Peleo Sanchez,
04:07 but Vendrami still had over a minute and was in sight of the top of the climb
04:12 and the descent towards the finish line.
04:14 Steinhauser was then caught and passed by Peleo Sanchez,
04:17 but Vendrami, looking totally in control of his efforts.
04:20 He's going to soak this up.
04:22 500 metres of pure joy for Andrea Vendrami.
04:25 It's been three years since Andrea Vendrami has ridden to victory in any bike race.
04:30 The Giro d'Italia, really, in 2021, his biggest achievement by far.
04:37 But that stage pales in significance relatively compared to what he's just delivered.
04:43 Deep into this Giro d'Italia, in the Dolomites here, against a stacked field.
04:48 Andrea Vendrami has been off the front
04:51 for longer than any of the other bike riders in this breakaway.
04:54 Wonderful victory, another stage win for Italy
04:58 and Vendrami has just done the ride of his life.
05:02 Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale score a second win
05:06 and that was the best ride this man has ever, ever produced.
05:12 And what a stage to do it on.
05:14 Vendrami, take a bow.
05:16 Putting everybody to the sword in the big 19 rider breakaway.
05:36 Fantastic achievement from the Italian.
05:38 Peleo Sanchez in second, Georg Steinhauser once again in third.
05:41 No change in the general classification in the top 10,
05:45 despite Aino Rubio trying to put pressure on Roman Bardet.
05:48 And this man has won the Magliociclomino.
05:52 His lead now, Jonathan Milan, an unassailable 127 over Caden Groves.
05:57 It's theoretically possible that Tadej Pogacar could lose the King of the Mountains jersey
06:02 tomorrow to Georg Steinhauser, who moves up to second.
06:05 And there's no change in the white jersey competition
06:08 as Tiberi still leads Tiemann-Arendsman by 41 seconds.
