Transcript
00:00 Good news for the workers.
00:02 According to the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.,
00:06 the consultation on the possible increase in wages in Metro Manila has already started.
00:11 That's what Ken and the patient reported.
00:13 Laika has been working as a cashier in an establishment for three months.
00:18 Although she is grateful for having a job,
00:21 she admitted that sometimes her salary is not enough as a minimum wage earner here in NCR.
00:28 I am also working as a cashier.
00:30 I am also sending money to my family.
00:33 I am also a cashier because I have to pay for the groceries.
00:36 I have to pay for the groceries every day.
00:39 That's why Laika's colleagues are asking for an increase in wages for minimum wage earners.
00:46 It's increasing, sir.
00:47 Because the groceries are increasing.
00:51 The workers are now asking for the government to help them.
00:55 In fact, the consultation of the Labor Department is already underway
01:00 with various groups of workers to discuss the possible increase in wages in Metro Manila.
01:06 This is also in accordance with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
01:10 to increase the wage rates of the workers.
01:13 We are reviewing now the socioeconomic conditions in the region
01:18 as well as the inputs of the labor sector.
01:21 Our mandate is to review if we need to adjust the minimum wage in the NCR.
01:34 So we will have to balance the interests of both the labor and the employer sector.
01:41 Along with the consultation of NEDA and DTI,
01:45 there were also labor groups that presented their opinions and comments
01:50 even though their position paper will be the guide of the authorities
01:54 in deciding on the minimum wage adjustment.
01:57 We are mindful of the directive of our President.
02:01 That's why as early as now, last week, it's already 60 days.
02:07 We will make all sectors listen to what we are discussing.
02:16 After the consultation, it will be followed by a meeting with the sector of employers on June 4
02:22 and there will be a public hearing on June 20.
02:25 In the beginning of the DOLE,
02:27 the Wage Deliberation will be with the NCR Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board.
02:32 We will be fair and we will listen to all the opinions of both the labor and employer
02:41 as well as the other sectors that can help us to arrive at a very fair wage determination.
02:56 Currently, the minimum wage in the NCR is P610.
03:01 It is not yet determined how much the possible increase in the wage will be.
